I'm trying to install the PIE-AUX in my 2002 Passat in the 12-pin CD changer port in the trunk. Everything is hooked up correctly. Do VW's require an activation code from the dealer? I called and they said yes and want to charge me $44.50 to bring it in for them to do. I called another stereo place, and they said I would have to take to the dealer. Anyone else have to do this? On the PIE instructions, it says "activate aux device" but no information on how to do that. Right now, when I press the CD button on the head unit, it will say CD1 Trc1 and then go right to No Disk. Anybody have any information on this?

Well, I just got off the phone with PIE in CA. They said with my Monsoon model stereo, this was a known issue. It's not related to any radio activation code. They are sending me a chip to replace the one that's in there now. He said it should work fine after that. I have the Monsoon stereo (with the round scan button!), with a tape cassette, and a single CD below it. I'll let everyone know if the new chip solves the problem. At least I can delay going to the dealer and paying another $45-89! The dealer wasn't even sure of the price they would charge to enter a code....

If this new 'chip' doesn't fix your issue, then it may very well be a programming problem. The computer on the car must be programmed to recognize a CD Changer (it's the fifth digit in the radio programming code:
00 - All models with Premium VI w/o Multifunction Steering Wheel
01 - Golf/GTI
02 - Jetta
03 - Jetta Wagon
04 - All models with Premium VI with Multifunction Steering Wheel
06 - New Beetle
Look at the third digit in the coding (radio/speaker system):
0 - Premium V or Premium VI (Monsoon)
4 - Premium IV, Premium V, or Premium VI (non-Monsoon)
Look at the fourth digit in the coding (sound correction):
0 - Premium IV, Premium V, or Premium VI (non-Monsoon)
3 - Premium V (Monsoon) 2-door or Premium VI (Monsoon)
4 - Premium V (Monsoon) 4-door
Look at the fifth digit in the coding (CD player/changer):
1 - Without CD Player/Changer
3 - With CD Player/Changer
So, if you have a 2-door GTI with Monsoon and a CD changer, 01,0,3,3 = 01033

I assume you have to get this done at the dealership?
