Just a note, Apple is selling a refurb. 3G 15Gig on their website for only $279, which includes all the accessories and a 1yr Apple warranty. I'll give you $250 + S&H if your interested.

Err... no This is not a refurb..

Why you crap on my thread like that?

His isn't a refurb. It's new and still under warranty as well. I know if I tried to sell mine for that price I'd be losing about $100 as it was, plus the extra accessories included above the factory ones.

He's just pointing out that Apple will sell a refurb (with new battery, new case, unused sealed earbuds and remote and a full one year guarantee) for very much less than you are asking. Moreover such a refurb has been fully tested and its history is therefore not an issue.

Without being offensive, Apple are plainly a safer bet than you are - an unknown guy selling a second hand iPod with no guarantee, and no guarantee that what you are saying about age, usage, etc. is true.

However great your second hand iPod is, it's patently worth less than an Apple refurb is, and with that in mind, your price is excessive.

Moreover, what we paid for our iPods is irrelevant - what matters today is how much new Pods are now, and a new iPod is $299 (10 GB) or $399 (20 GB).

So he's not 'crapping on your thread'.

And actually he's given you a very generous offer.

If it made it seemed like I was "crapping" on your thread, I didn't mean for it to sound like that.

As the guy mentioned above, there really is little difference between a refurb. ipod and a used ipod. The fact that yours is only a month old does not change the fact that it is used. Apple tests their refurb. ipods fully and replaces any parts with "brand new" parts if needed. All accessories are included and they offer a FULL 1yr warranty with it as well.

Apple is much more trustworthy and reputable that a total stranger in a classifieds posting. If I have a problem with Apple, I can return mine directly. Are you going to give me that same guarantee? If anyone can pick up a refurb. from the guys who make the ipods for $279, why would anyone buy a used one from a stranger for $335?

I do my research before I buy my things, so I did not post to insult your thread, if that was my intention, than I would have never made that offer to begin with.

By the way, I'm not sure on this, but I think Apple offers free shipping on their products too.

Listen, Newbie. With 11 posts you aren't that well qualified to say what this forum is for, nor is it your place to dictate what people post in reply to your ad on a public bulletin board, just as long as they remain polite.

You might prefer that people PM you about your high price, but this board is a community, founded on principles of mutual help and assistance between fellow enthusiasts. If its members choose to warn one another when someone appears to be over-charging or even seems to be trying to rip them off it's neither 'raw sewage' nor 'pointless', it's what fellow members of a community do, to help each other out.

At the same time, appraising you as to the true value of your iPod might be seen as doing you a favour too. It may be that you will be able to sell it at this rip-off price to someone who isn't aware of its true worth, but it may hang around for ages. Letting you know what is and isn't a good offer is just common politeness.

I can appreciate that you want to make the biggest possible profit from your sale, and of course that's understandable. If I was selling mine, I'd want to make the best price I could - though I wouldn't want to rip anybody off.

But if you don't want others to point out that you are charging too much, then I can only suggest that you lower your expectations.

Anyone can buy a new 10 GB iPod for $299 or a 20 GB for $399 (what does that make a 15 GB model worth, if it were still possible to get one that was brand spanking new from Apple? $350?)

But it's an obsolete model. So straight away it's worth less. What then? $300?

And anyone can by a refurb 15 GB iPod from Apple for $279 (including S&H). Yours has got to be worth less than that. The earbuds aren't sealed, it's been used, and there is no guarantee that you are as safe a bet as Apple. That must be reflected in the price. That's just common sense. No-one's being personal.

So an offer of $250 (+ S&H) for

- Box & Papers (original)
- Earbuds (original)
- Case (Slip on origial)
- Wired Remote (original)
- baggie (original)
- Dock (original)
- Fireware cable (original)
- Firewire adapter (original)

is more than generous. He's offering you virtually the same as he'd pay Apple for a refurb. I think that he's a mug, to be honest (for $29 more he could get a refurb, and he wouldn't have to pay S&H), yet all you can do is treat him with disrespect and rudeness.

I know that your 'offer' included some extras, but do you really think that

- Bumper Case - Made By Speck? (Charcoal color)
- Sony MDR-e828lp earbuds w/ winder

are worth anything much, second hand?

If you don't like people pointing out that your offer isn't much of a bargain, then I'd suggest that your best options might be either a) to bug.ger off and sell it somewhere else, or b) to be a bit less greedy.

I hope that you get a fair price for your iPod, and I hope that you find someone selling the Dell you want for an equally fair price, too.

Why would you use your precious time interferring with something that has nothing to do with you what so ever?

Because I don't like to see my virtual pals being ripped off by greedy low lifes. Easy really.

Glad you sold your pod, though, but feel sorry for the poor sap who paid that much over the odds. I hope someone doesn't shark you on the Dell.
