View Full Version : Environmental Retail Packaging for eXo?
Recently a number of large and small retailers have asked about eXo and packaging was an issue. I feel that the packaging for eXo should be a soft zip case with the belt clip and screen protector attached to the zipper for easy removal when purchased. I would like to see eXo in usable packaging and it would give customers a chance to squeeze the eXo and feel the softness before they buy. Retailers like the norm of hard pack, with the belt clip and screen protector as part of the package and with all the advertising framing. As consumers would your rather see eXo in a soft zip case in Apple stores / Best Buy or have it in a hard PVC pack with advertising like all the other retailing packing?

I'd imagine in the Apple Stores/Best Buy you'd most certainly want to put it in a PVC pack.
1) The Zip doesn't hang on a display post.
2) You're not going to want stores to place UPCs on the Zip.
3) Shelf space!
4) More writing area for name/logo recognition, description, and pictures of it ON an IPOD.
5) Security. A PVC case would have more room for security tags, and if you crimp or meld the sides together, people wouldn't be able to simply unzip the Zip and take the eXo.
Although feeling it instore would be cool... Perhaps a hole in the PVC allowing the consumer to touch the silicone itself?
I would consider it silly to retail iSkins in their Zips alone.
Thank you very much and so quick.
I have a tag that displays the product, name and size and on the back there is a place for barcode, this gets secured to the zip case by a PVC self locking string that binds the 2 zipper heads together to prevent it from being opened, it is here that I would like to attach the belt clip and screen protector. I realize that this is not conventional packaging and I may be trying to swim upstream that is why I am asking for some opinions from the people that count - iPod owners.

No problem Lajo, and I apologize for my relative ignorance on your present packaging methods.
I admire your adherence to the wishes of your end user base, but I would have to suggest that in this instance, you should cater your decision to the wishes of your resellers, who don't want their product ripped off due to weak enclosure or damaged because of dangling, loose accessories.
On a note more directly answering your question, I (as a consumer) would rather purchase a product that is fully enclosed... I don't think I'd like to have accessories dangling prone, and my Zip case exposed to the elements in the shipping and retail processes.

I agree with azdude just have a cut out hole where people can feel the silicone. I think thats good enough for someone whos wanting to purchase it.
It looks like hard PVC is the desired way to view the product

I think that is where some kind of displayer would come in handy. You could mount an actual iSkin exo in some kind fo dye cut. That way people could walk up to the display take a look at the iSkin and accesories and then make a decision. You could put each accessorie on a string of some kind, that way people could bring in their iPod and stick the screen protector to it to see how that looks, and they could try attaching the belt clip to the iSkin. Just an idea.
A hole in the MacClear is an intersting idea, but I like the fact that my MacClear has no holes once I remove the iSkin, otherwise my accesories (headphones, remote, firewire) would fall out.
If the retail store had a demo unit around I think that would solve a lot of the packaging question. That way people could hold it, feel, it and see the quality.
Anyways I have gone on, I really like the tags that come on the cases now, and the packaging. From an online reseller point of view (selling on ebay and stuff) I would like the package to be like this: put the belt clip and screen protector inside the exo and then the exo inside the MacClear and put the tag on it like before, that way it would be easier to ship out in a nice small bubble envelope.

I agree with Mike, if you had a hard box, and maybe a display with a cardboard ipod and maybe the screen covers dangeling so you can heckout the final results, and feel the case on the form, that would be a good idea. I also think thats awesome that you care what we think, that kind of stuff really matters, ill be buying one of your cases soon =)
It seems that the PVC hard case for retail stores has won the vote, thank you all for the valuable information you have given me. I have a new case for the 2nd gen 10gb iPod, if any one of you who posted your comments have one I will send it to you the moment they are in stock (we will be manufacturing this morning China time) the new label for this case is Xskn...
I will print this thread now to record your names. Please send me an email with the subject Xskn - packaging - I will send you information on how to get your Xskn for testing.
For the others that want to test drive Xskn you will have your chance later next week when it will be posted on the front page.
