Griffin is cranking out massive amounts of iPod accessories lately . . . pretty cool stuff, too.
I'm still waiting on the SmartDeck personally, but Griffin has tons of great stuff.

For those of you who haven't read the main news item on this product, this is the retail version of the HelixiPod case which debuted here a few weeks ago.

LOL. I just found that out a few seconds ago.
I'm on Griffin's e-mail list, and started this thread after I read the e-mail. When I first saw it I thought to myself that Helixipod's delay would probably cost him sales. It's great that Helixipod is working with Griffin.

Glad he got with Griffin on this project. Too bad it doesnt allow for a lanyard. I like the case but am put off by the lack of lanyard.

Seems like a complete ripoff of something someone posted months ago. Like the colors though.

Umm Maxman, that is what was posted months ago. The guy who made it is known as HelixiPod here. He got a contract with Griffin to make and sell his cases.
Ya. Helix. About a month. (Where'd you been.)

are you sure this is helixipod's product because it says in the ipodlounge review:
Exopod's new Aluminum Magnetic Case for iPod shuffle ($35.00) uses a design similar to the one innovated by iPodlounge reader HelixiPod, but changes up a few features with interesting results.

You've answered your own question.
The one you're referring to is by Exopod.
The one that is the subject of this thread is by Griffin Tech and Helixipod.

Taken directly from the news page:
Griffin Technology and designer Greg Gutierrez today announced the iVault aluminum case for the iPod shuffle. Gutierrez (aka "Helixipod"), who first showed the case on the iPodlounge forums, has partnered with Griffin to sell and distribute the case in the US.
Yes, it is helixpod's case, he just teamed up with Griffin...

Wow, I never knew he teamed up with Griffen. Cool. He's probably making loads off of this, depending on his deal with Griffen.

ohhh i see now... i started to realize after i posted that maybe they were two different things and i was confused for a minute there lol
im glad that helixipod finally got his product up. i was a little worried that once his product came out that shipping to canada here would make costs alot more than i would want to pay but seeing as griffen has so many distributors near me, its only a matter of time...

You need to look into material and machinery costs if you really believe that.
Even if they are being made here in the US and not some third world country the cost per unit should be nowhere near half that price.

I wonder if he's on a percentage,or he just got a lump sum.
I wonder if he actually is making a lot of money from this.

wonder where the cases for the other gen iPods are...!?
good luck to him, and it sports a "Made for iPod" badge as well :)

I kind of think they are a ripoff. I think it is odd spending 20% of the price you pay for a 1gb shuffle on a case. My $400 ipod is wrapped up in a $20 case. If I had a $300 ipod and bought a vaja case then that would be about 24% of the price of the ipod. This case here is about 20% of the 1 gb shuffle. It just seems odd I guess. I think they should be about $15.00. But they are cool and shinny and people will buy them like mad despite their lack of the lanyard....part of the entire concept of the shuffle (wear it around your neck, go work out....etc) .
Anyway, just a thought.

i was really happy realising helixipod finally team up with griffin to sell his product. but, the problem is, The shipping by griffin to australia is US$30.. it would cost me US$60 for the case in total.. man, i need some help..

Yeah, that's a good point. Griffin overcharges for shipping more than any other company I've seen. It's almost double the price to even ship to Canada.. I've asked them before about this and they always give me some stupid excuse why they do.. it's always BS.
I hope a reseller here in T.O. will stock them (without the 200% markup), otherwise it looks like I won't be getting one of these afterall... :(

What I don't like about it is that the USB connector is exposed. If you go places with lots of dirt/sand around (like I do), you'll get a ton of grit in there. What would make it perfect would be a little removable rubber plug for the USB opening.

JustinHermary....... I didn't mean to "plug" to the computer....
I meant to "plug" the hole in order to "protect" the USB connector

What happened to Helix and his 3G/4G cases? If the 4G case looks as good as the 3G he showed, I'd definitely buy it, if the price is right... maybe a little "pre-Griffin" deal, without their mark-up.

Its good to see SOME nice people here.

I'm very nice.
I just ask for a minimum effort from people participating in a community.
You have consistently failed to put forth that effort.

06-29-2005, 03:52 PM
GreatGraySkwid,
Again, you are being being just unreasonable.
All I did was ASK a question and I have recieved sarcastic responses. You make it hard to WANT to be part of this forum. I did a search on Greg Gutierrez and came up with nothing. Big deal ! I asked a question! Isn't that part of what forums are for! I am going to refrain myself here from stooping to your level. It really is not worth my time.

Echo,
I did not mean everyone- I am sorry if I offended anyone . Basically, my part of this thread started as a separate thread as a question (moderators put the 2 threads together -which now makes me look like an idiot) GreatGraySkwid and I have had disagreements before about really unimportant things so that comment was mainly towards him.
All I wanted to know was if the aluminum cases I saw in MacMall were made by the same guy that I saw in these forums about 2 months ago.
Basically I just was laughed at.

... and it's STILL not shipping.. what a joke.
If they weren't ready, they should definately not have started advertising so soon.. "pre-order" is lame.

No, that's not true at all. The FIRST thing I did was link you to this thread. You completely ignored that and continued to natter on. If you were laughed at it was because you were acting silly.

Does anyone know where I can buy and exopod case or does anyone have a used one they would like to sell ?

Well...if you buy it from Griffin, it's $19.99...If you buy it from the Apple store, they tack on an additional $10.00 for giving you the priviledge of buying from them, so $29.99 there. Oh and this should give you a warm, fuzzy feeling about the Applestore...the guy I talked to at Griffin said the Applestore basically bought out their entire stock save for "a few silver and a few red ones".
There's a post at the top of this forum that addresses the "finish" issue of the iVault, posted by ddpg. I'm the one that did the powdercoating on there. URLs are included in that post...
Cheers...
