View Full Version : Sennheiser 212 vs 202
Ok I already have a set of portables, sony mdr-ex71sl but i wanted some full size headphones for home and just sitting around so i was thinking of the sennheiser 212's or 202's but i dont know which one to choose because they both seem the same but the 202's are much cheaper. I do not want the 497's because of the open design but could someone please help me deicde or even give a different suggestion on what to get for at most $50, dont want to spend that much when i already have a pair. Thank you

If you're a basshead and listen to a lot of hip hop and dance, the HD212 may be good enough for you. It has some fairly decent highs and midrange, but the bass is bloated and overpowering that I've ended-up returning mine within a couple days. I'm going to my nearest Fry's and pick-up the Sony MDR-V6 which retails for $79 and supposedly it's one of the better sealed cans for under $100.
The HD202 isn't much better, but the bass isn't overpowering like that of the HD212. Out of all the full-sized sealed cans in the $20-$30 range, which I find them all appalling, the HD202 is a decent value.

Agreed - I too had the same problem. I love my dance/club music and wanted a good bass. But then I heard about the exaggerated bass boost of the 212s and decided it wasn't worth spending the extra cash for it. I bought the 202s and so far I've enjoyed it! Good quality and I'm sure when you pump up the bass through your eq, it would sound like you're having the 212s.

the bass on the HD212's is overpowering sometimes, however, having tested similar rival models, the HD212's always sounded better.
if bass isn't your thing then you might be better off with the HD215. i loved mine, big, comfortable, and they sounded sweet.
but my new HD212's rival love is the JBL reference 410. not as comfortable as the 212's but they are portable, if ever you have the need.
the price on amazon fluctuates from day to day, and today they are $28.....Usually they're sell for around $40.
