Hi everyone ..

I have a 40 gig iPod, and have just updated the firmare as per the latest patch. My iPod is working correctly, well, other than one very annoying thing. My iPod sits on my desk and is always connected to my PC, thus getting its power from the PC. After updating though I'm getting a message telling me that it's 'Okay to disconnect' *after* I've ejected my iPod. Does this now mean that I can't use my iPod whilst connected to my PC via the firewire? It works just fine if I lift it from the dock and use it. How can get rid of this annoying message and use my iPod whilst it's connect via the firewire? I either have the 'Do not disconnect' message when I place the iPod in the dock, or the 'Okay to disconnect' message after ejecting it - VERY annoying.

Many thanks ..

Chinqua--

As far as I know, that's just the way it is under Windows. I have a 3g iPod, and with the first firmware version, it would allow me to play songs on my ipod through my pc while connected to firewire. For some reason, Apple removed this capability on Windows PC's quite a few firmware versions ago.

Sorry, this isn't what you wanted to hear...

Thank you for taking the time to reply - at least I now know that trying to mess with it is basically a waste of time. I do think that I can revert to my old firmware version as I've installed this updated before and then backtracked to the old version.

I'm actualy strarting to get a bit miffed at Apple. Downright awful battery life, expensive units to start with, software that really isn't very good in iTunes, just to name a few things there. The gaps between the songs is the most irritating thing with MP3 players though. and as so many people are moaning about this I'd have thought that Apple might have been able to *fix* this. It *can* be fixed too, Sony's little MP3 player plays seemless music.

I looked at the new iPod Photo a few days ago, and really, all I can say about the so-called CD art and all I have to say about this *art thumbnail* is 'what a joke' ..

Abyway, I seem to have hijacked my own thread with my rant! LOL .. At least I feel better though! LOL ..

Thanks again ..

When you say you want to play music from the iPod when it's connected to the PC do you mean you want to play the music through iTunes and the PC speakers or via the headphones. If it's the former it works perfectly with current firware revisions.

I actually wanted to leave my iPod plugged into the PC via the Firewire, and listen to it via headphones, just like I've been doing since I bought it. After updating the firmware though I can't listen to it at all whilst it's connected to the PC because the iPod is (to all intents and purposes) locked with this 'OK to disconnect' message across the iPod window. Very, very annoying. The only way I can clear this message is to disconnect it from the PC.
