All Songs Erased From iPOD

I have a 4g 40gb iPOD and i use windows xp and i use realplayer for putting all of my songs on my ipod. After realplayer said i could disconnect my ipod safely i did and i went to play a song and they were all gone, i replugged it into my computer and it says all my songs are gone but 5 of the 40gb are still taken up so the songs are still on my ipod i just cant get them. Is there a way for me to get my ipod to search itself for all of the songs, if not what should i do?

Sounds like your iPod has a had a bit of a fit. I think trying a reset and/or a restore may sort it out but fear you will ultimately have to copy the tracks back on to it.
