hi everyone, i just have to share this because after days and days of frustration its all good, i called the apple 1800 # and this is what went down:
1. un-install & erase everything related to ipod, itunes, ipod updated (except music of course).
2. re-download the new ipod updater 2005-02-22, latest version of itunes.
3. go to the START - RUN - "msconfig" -
this part was tricky, in the STARTUP tab he made me "disable everything" EXCEPT the "microsoft related" options.
do the same in the SERVICE tab.
4. restart PC
5. Re-install all the itunes and ipod software.
6. plug ipod and let it run the updater, format ipod, dismount ipod , plug into power source, re-dock ipod, you should know this part by now....
thats it
he told me that PC users that have XP sometimes have trouble because the PC has issues with registration information, it worked like a charm
i hope this helps, anyways remember if you didnt buy the apple care package u are still entitled to 1 phone call in the first 90 days of purchase, make that call count, i was on the line for 1 hour and 20 min with the operator.
