I'm an iPod virgin. This weekend when I got my iPod I installed itunes on my friends PC in NY (I live in MA) and downloaded songs from there.

Now, I came home, installed itunes, and it's trying to delete my songs, cause they're not on my PC. I know there are alot of posts on this topic, as I found a few, but many of them still leave me clueless on the "first step" to take...

They say things like fire up explorer and open hidden files... I have NO CLUE what that means or how to do it.

I feel like an idiot. Can someone help me? Thanks!

Welcome.
-connect ipod to pc
-press & hold down the 'Shift + Alt + Ctrl' keys to stop the ipod from auto sync'ing w/ itunes.
-hold for about 3 seconds after the ipod shows in the source list in iTunes
-then let the keys go
-go to edit>preferences>ipod
-set ipod to "manually manage songs & playlists". This turns the auto sync feature off.
-you can then download iPod Agent (www.ipodsoft.com/software.aspx) to transfer the files from the iPod to the pc or
-see these instructions (http://www.ipodlounge.com/tips_more.php?id=2166_0_11_0_C)
