Hey Gang,

Can I get some tips on how to import from iPod into iTunes?

My computer recently crashed and I had to rebuild. After doing so I installed a fresh version of iTunes and thought I'd just import the songs I'd purchased into there. However, when I hook the iPod up I'm given a message that says there is some kind of consistency problem. It asks if I'd like to replace everything on my iPod with that which is in my iTunes program. However, since iTunes is now showing that I have absolutly nothing in it, it seems the result of doing this would be to literally wipe out everything that I have purchased.

I found this link here: http://www.ipodlounge.com/tips_more.php?id=2166_0_11_0_C

It provides some instructions for copying music from my iPod to my computer. But how do I get em back into iTunes?

Thanks!

Welcome. Once songs are in a folder go to File>Add folder to library and make sure the songs play in itunes. If they don't go into the file and make sure the 'read only' box is unchecked.

There is also software that will do it for you. See the freeware link in my sig.

Hey Honeybee..

One quick question before I finish this..

I followed the manual suggestions and accessed the iPod directory here:

I have my iTunes directory set up here:

http://spider-food.net/astuff/ipod2.gif <screen shot>

When copying the music files should I retain the folder structure that exists on the iPod an place those folders in the 'iTunes Music' directory?

Or should I copy and paste each music file independent of the existing f00, f01, etc.. file structure?

Thanks.. :)

Hey Gang,

Hope it's okay for me to bump this.

Might anyone know anything about my question above?

When copying files back back into iTunes should I retain the f00, f01, f02, .... etc.. file structure, or put all my songs in one folder.

Thanks! :)

Just transfer the music from the folders not the folders themselves and put them into a music folder if your going to use that method in your 1st post.

Thanks, honeybee.....

I was going to use the program but given my situation the warnings kinda promted me to go with the other. Perhaps I will anyway. However, whatever the case thanks for your help!
