When I loaded iTunes, it changed all of my file tags. I have been using MusicMatch for 4 years, and I love it. All of the songs are tagged as track#-Artist Name - Track Title. Somehow, all 9000 were changed to track# - Track Title.

Is there an easy way to correct this without going back through MM and renaming files? Anyone know what caused this?

I would like to keep MusicMatch, just because I know how to do everything I want in it. I have read on the forum that you should not run MM and Itunes simultaneously. Maybe that was part of the problem.

You're confusing TAGS with FILE NAMES. The file name is insignificant. The file name could theoretically be a bunch of gibberish and, as long as the tags are correct, programs like iTunes and MusicMatch could read them.

Tags are stored inside the file as internal data, including artist, album, title, year, disc number, album art, etc.

What iTunes is doing is taking the internal tag data and renaming the files for uniformity.

If you go into iTunes preferences and uncheck the "keep my music folder organized" option, iTunes will not do this in the future. However, rest assured that the tag data has not been changed.

You are correct. It changed the file name, not the actual tags. I think in the past this bugged me when I would burn onto an MP3 disc, it would put the tracks in alphabetical order and not the order they were on the CD. I'll make sure I uncheck that box if I use iTunes again.
