Which one? http://speckproducts.com/toughskin-q.htm or http://www.iskin.com/evo2.html

It's going on a 20 gig.

Well, I like the look of the iskin better. The other one looks bulky.

Yeah but it really boils down to looks vs protection.

Whoa that tough skin is pretty big. I would go with the iskin.
I myself was originally going to go with the iskin, but then my hypothesis about the fading of the color after frequent pocket use was confirmed when I saw a friend with his.

I am going to get one of these decals (http://www.decalgirl.com/browse.cfm/2,196.htm) from Decalgirl.com. I only care about scraches and these decals should do the trick without the fading and pocket fuzz. And it'll look cool too. I'm also gonna a decal for my shuffle.:)

I want it for safety.

My suggestion is to just use your iPod the way its meant to be used. With regular use, your iPod will not suffer any great damages. I don't see the point in protecting it with cases and the such if you are never going to see that which you are protecting.

Just my two cents...

I want a case to make sure no accidental scratches happen. I'm asking you guys to help me decide on a case.

If you want it for no accidental scratches, I would go iSkin. For utmost protection you can go any number of other routes, in oppose to that bulky, ugly, thing made by Speck.

iSkin wins!

rock on for the iSkin. I have a speck gel and my iTrip won't quite fit. Hope you enjoy the iSkin.

i ended up getting the tough skin. it is bulky and "fugly" but i like the look of it. the case screams "muy macho" without having to wear work boots, changing your name to chuck and shaving your head.

the skin is thick and could probably withstand a decent drop...since i am a complete clutz, this is important. it feels good in your hand but the texture collects lint from my hoody pocket...nothing that a little warm soapy water couldn't fix. (um, remove your iPod first).

i chose the frosted clear jobbie...the color versions make me think of those giant oversized legos i used to play with as a kid. the screen protector is a hard, clear plastic lens that fits into slots in the case...very durable. the click wheel cover is another piece of hard, clear plastic that hinges on the bottom and sorta snaps into the skin at the top. it is easy to fold down, access the wheel, and then fold it back up...even without looking at it.

i have two gripes about the case: one is the belt clip it comes with and the other is that it doesn't play well with iTrip. the skin is designed to fit just about any full size iPod using a hard shim that fits inside the case along the back wall. flip it one way and the shim's little nubbies fill the space between the back of a smaller iPod and the case...flip it around in the skin and the nubbies now fit into the back of the skin allowing more room for bigger iPods. with the shim in it's proper position, the skin fit my 60 gig iPod photo like a porky prom date in a dress two sizes too small. it buckled a bit at the sides and top, but nothing terribly noticable. at least i didn't have to buy it a corsage.

the shim is necessary for the belt clip post to be attached to the back. the skin has a half-dollar size hole in the back (along with some other small holes used for holding the shim in place). the post twists in tightly to the shim and then the post sticks out through the hole. then your belt clip gizmo snaps onto the post. the belt clip piece is awful. once you are done with this sort of skin-shim-post origami the iPod will stick out from your belt a good inch and a half. good thing the case is so thick! i felt like i could take out pedestrians on the other side of the street with this thing on my belt. i used to have a belt clip attachment system like this on a cell phone a couple years ago...it was a pain back then and i knew what i was in for if i continued to use it on the iPod. the clip allows the iPod to swing freely around...the one i had on my cell phone would lock in place every 30 degrees. this would allow for horizontal or vertical positioning...the one for the iPod does not. so i removed the shim and the thus the belt clip. the iPod fit better without the shim.

iTrip is one of the best and most popular add-ons with my friends. so i got one as well and love it to death. the tough skin's opening on top is j u s t a bit too narrow and too thick to accept the iTrip. a little work with an razor blade and it should be fine...although you shouldn't have to. for now, i pull back the sides of the skin and allow the iTrip to be seated properly onto the iPod. it distorts the case when it is on there but it is worth the ability to freak out my coworkers' when i walk by their radio and the music changes.

so, if you are looking for something that is super tough without going metal this is a great case. if you live and die by your belt clip, then not so much...unless you want something that requires a "wide load" sticker.

hopefully speck will do a redesign on this case to allow for a slimmer clip...something that resembles the one apple gives you. a little redesign on the top of the skin could accommodate the transmitter without losing any protection. one of the things i looked for in a case was one that covered all the corners of the device. the corners are always the things i seem to damage on my stuff. i think they could redesign to meet both requirements. if not, then i will make my millions by designing an iTrip extension piece!

hope this is helpful for anyone considering a bullet proof case.

Safety? Krusell leather case. Try the ebay vendor "yatchai" -- they sell Krusell's. Check it out.

I had a mini and liked the iskin and felt the belt clip was secure. It gave good protection.

Then I bought a 20 gig ipod and also another iskin. I still really like the case but not sure if the belt clip is enough to hold the weight. Haven't tested it yet. The 'glo' ones are really good as you can see the clickwheel clearly in the dark .. handy if listening when you are off to bed for the night.

I washed both iskins throughly in warm soapy water and dried them before using them and never had any heating/melting/colour fading issues.

It's early days but my ipod doesn't seem to get hot enough to melt the case. The warm water I washed it in was hotter !! and it's still fine. It does pick up a bit of fluff though but a weekly/fortnightly wash fixes that (oh and take the ipod out before washing ...
 )
