Well it all depends on how obsessive you will be about your shiny new iPod. If you treat it like most people treat their mobile phones and don't care about the occasional scratch, ding, blemish then don't bother :p

The other reason not to bother is if you intend to carry it 24/7 with the included belt-clip.

Otherwise, it is usually prudent to purchase a case and at the very least, a screen and click-wheel protector. The brushed aluminium finish provides some protection (except if you, God forbid, drop your iPod) - but will eventually get scratched by keys, coins, pens, whatever.

I reckon you ought to get a case ;) If you've thought enough about it to post this thread... Now you have to decide between:
1. Leather flip cases
2. Hard-cases
3. iPod skins (e.g. eXo3)

Happy review reading on ipodlounge!

My wife has had her mini almost a year now and has never used more than the included belt clip. And it looks great, but I will admit she uses her mini lightly. I think the shell of a mini is stronger then that on the standard iPod. We are both dock fans and she never wanted to be bothered with the "in and out" of a case. And I even offered her a Vaja I-Vod.

I've had my 60gb for about 2 months now and i don't bother with a case for that.I didn't bother with a case for my 3g 20gb either after the first month of using it with an iskin. It was too much hassle taking it off each time just so i could dock it.Both ipods are still in great condition though.(well,my 3g was when i sold it)

I've got a capdase metal case for my mini, and it certainly comes in handy. For example, having a lanyard proved very useful on a recent walk home from the library - I could tuck it right under my sweater, completely out of sight and out of the snow (though it wasn't very cold out). And it's very easy to take out of the case, if need be.

The right tools for the right job - if you're going to be taking your mini around and don't like the thought if it being in your pocket, you'll want a lanyard or belt clip. And it's always a good idea to hide the little thing, because I don't like the thought of everyone around me knowing I've got one. Call me a little insecure, but I don't want to be mugged. :)

Ehhh case smashe, If you want to get something that will protect your iPod go get a baby sock and put in that thing. Protects from scratches, isn't expensive, and makes it easy to take out; and if you want to clip it use the belt clip.

i take my ipod to work in a aluminum case..

my ipod is two weeks old, my case has a scratched screen, is dented and is really scuffed up...

so i guess it depends on where you use it
