I noticed on the Apple shop site (http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/945/wo/WKtMV1r8e4HqFmGi0z/3.3.0.5.8.3.5.13.0) that the extra dock was listed as being for the 10gb and 15gb models with no mention of the 30gb.

I thought this could just be an error but my manager at work has just got a 15gb one (my influence, natch ;)) and my 30gb won't fit in his dock!

Not much more to say but something to watch out for if you were planning on getting an extra dock for your 30gb model as there doesn't seem to be any listed yet.

Sorry if anyone knew this but it was news to me as I figured that the dock would be the same for all models.

I noticed when I was looking at the iPods that the 30 is a little deeper than the 10 or 15. Too bad they didn't make the docs compatible.:(

Funny, I was just noticing how tight my 15 GB looked in its dock today, and was wondering how a 30 GB would fit...

Hmmm, yeah, but still many new notebook hard drives are REALLY small... some 40 and 80 gb drives seem so small that I don't see why Apple's 30 gb model would be large than their 15 and 10 gb models...

I found this interesting as I just ordered a dock for my 30Gb iPod, so I went back to the Apple site I ordered from and checked. It looks like the link you provided points to Apple's UK store. The description for the dock is slightly different on the US store.

Description for the iPod Dock from Apple's UK Store
Just plug, unplug, and go. The iPod Dock makes charging and syncing easier than ever. A convenient and elegant home base for iPod on a desk or connected to a home stereo system, the dock provides syncing via FireWire or USB 2.0*, charging via FireWire and a stereo line out for simple connection to power speakers or a stereo system. Compatible only with new 10GB or 15GB iPod with Dock Connector. Description for the iPod Dock from Apple's US Store

I now wonder which one I'll actually receive. I think I'll give Apple a call right now. According to my order, the dock isn't scheduled to ship until June 9th.

Originally the CSR said that it was only for the 10Gb model and that I didn't need one because it already came with my 30Gb (she did quite understand why I would want to order another dock when my iPod already had one.) After having me on hold for 5 minutes she finally said that it's the same dock for all the units.

I had my business partner call to check on his order as well (I wanted a second opinion) and he was told the same thing; "Size matters not."

Yes I have talked with Apple people and lounge people alike and have concluded that the docks are all the same size. The new 30 does in fact fit in my cradle (I have the 15). Also there is a bit of space around my 15 when in the dock, which is gone when a 30 is put there.

Interesting, there is definitely a difference in the docks somewhere as I just compared the two docks here side by side and the slot is definitely wider on the 30gb and the 30gb Pod won't fit in the 15gb one. Maybe it's a weird UK thing.

I'll contact Apple UK sales and let you know what they say here.

Well, I ordered a second dock for my 30gig the other day. Right now the only thing that makes me feel better about doing that is that I own a Dremel Tool!!

Hopefully I won't have to make any "modifications" to the new dock when it finally arrives!

The iPod doesn't use notebook hard drives, which are 2.5" The iPod drives are 1.75", IIRC. The whole iPod is about the size of a standard notebook drive.

Don't rely on what Apple says. Once (when I bought my PowerMac G4) they told me that the superdrive was a dvd-rw, and you could store two dvd's (whole rented ones) on one disc... I knew otherwise, but they are quite stupid. They also told me that the iPod has AA batteries in it!!! HAHA I think that if you have observing knowledge of the 30GB not fitting, then it doesn't fit... no matter what Apple says.

Actually I think I'll need that Dremel Tool soon. I plan on getting an iSkin for my 15 gig and there is no way the ipod, with the iskin on, will fit in the dock. Looks like I'll have to carve out a little space. I'll keep you guys up-to-date when the iSkin's become available and one gets to my house.

If you go to microwarehouse, and search for iPod, it says that the dock is for 10/15/30 models... This is a dillily of a pickle

You people need to visit the front page a little more often: http://www.ipodlounge.com/ipodnews_comments.php?id=P544_0_7_0_C

Just a question to SNFE Freak, how did you make the text under your name different? Shouldn't it say "Member" with 40 posts?

Thanks, I noticed that story but forgot to reply to this thread again. Only two people need to visit the front page more often as everyone else posted before the story was there :p ;).
