Buzzing Cassette Adaptor

Hope this hasn't been posted before.

I have a cassette adaptor bought from the Apple store which I use in my BMW 5 series (though I doubt the model makes a difference?) with my 20Gb Winipod.

Unfortunately the buzzing and static generally are so bad as to make my lovely pod unlistenable in-car. What's wrong? Is it me? Is there a solution? And is it worth splurging yet more cash on an i-trip style FM thingy instead?

Appreciate any help you can give. This is my first post on these "new" forums since the glory days of the "old" ipod lounge. Nice to be back!

nice car but what's the color of the bmw? That really effects sound you know? :)

Have you tried flipping the tape to the other side? I remember I had the tape adapter in my Jetta (dang...) and it was terribly low and staticly, but I press the A to B side button and it was normal. Hopefully it's as simple as that.

The idea of turning the cassette adapter over is a good one. If that doesn't work:

1. If you haven't already, try listening to your iPod with earbuds, just to make sure that there's nothing wrong with the iPod's output.

2. Try a pre-recorded cassette in your player. If that works, there's probably something wrong with the adapter.

3. To verify this, try the adapter in another cassette player.

I've had problems with my cassette adapter buzzing in my car also... it happens when I leave the cassette adapter in the heat for a while. I can make the buzzing go away by turning on the air conditioning and cooling down the adapter, which fixes it most of the time.

Thanks for all this, people. I'll try switching things around and report back. And don't get too excited about the car...I'll be paying for it until I'm old and grey!

Oh dear.
Nothing wrong with the iPod, and when I reverse the tape in the payer it plays for about 30 seconds (and sounds a little better), and then autoreverses again.
How good is the FM broadcast adapter? Worth buying?
