I just ordered a new 2G mini for my mom from Apple. In the confirmation email they sent, there was a space for the sales tax but there wasn't any amount listed. It simply says $0.00. I can't imagine this means I'm not paying any GST (Candian sales tax) on this, so what's the problem? Why isn't the tax amount shown and how can I find out how much I'm actually paying for this?
Thanks for any help.

This is what I paid for my 2nd Gen 4Gb :

Base Price : $249.99 CDN

Tax : $36 approx.

Total : $286 - I think it was 286 or 284

Paid in FutureShop in British Columbia... Langley area.

For a 2nd Gen 6Gb, you generally pay :

Base Price : $329.99

And the taxes and total I'm not sure about, but probably about... $376.00 total.

OK, thanks Canadian_Man. Does B.C. have PST though? Do you think I might pay less since in Alberta we only have to pay GST?

The taxes shows up on your bill later. You will only pay taxes that are applicable in your province. So, yes only GST since Alberta doesn't have PST.

Don't forget about the educational discount if you're a student.

4 gig is 225
6 gig is 289

You can only get that discount if you're a university student, though.

Come to think of it, I should have taken advantage of that discount, my brother's in college, I could have saved a few bucks.

Ok, so the tax will show up in my credit card bill? How come Apple can't calculate the tax themselves? Thanks for the info btw.
Oh, and no I'm not a university/college student, not now anyway, and my sisters still in junior high, so no discount for me.

they calculate the taxes when they ship the ipod, any number for taxes they give you before hand is only an estimate

I paid $232 taxes in for my new mini. My brother and I went together to buy two form the Apple student store which brought the total to over $400 and then used a $40 off coupon and free shipping. Best deal we could find.

You Alberta guys don't have to pay that recycling levy that your government imposed on iPods do you?

As far as I know we don't have to pay the fee on iPods, but I heard we do have to on computers and other larger electronic equipment.
On the tax issue, Apple did send an email with the tax added-I paid exactly $17.43 in GST.

Dammit. I bought my mini before the iPod line refresh and there was a student discount I didn't know about?

I just got my mini today! I'm so happy! My dad bought it for me, as an early birthday present, and he paid 280 something for it at best buy. My local futureshop doesn't have it yet. BTW, does anybody know where I could get this case?

And do you think a case is really necessary?

Have your brother call apple for you - maybe they will still do the student thing for you?

If you're careful I don't think a case is a must for a mini if something happens don't blame me though. It depends how you use it I only put it in my shirt pocket and it's never in contact with anything but my shirt material.
