Howdy folks.

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but I'd like some help in programming my iPod to accomplish a strange task. In less than a month I'm planning on running a marathon. This means I'll be on the road for at least 4.5 hours and possibly longer. Of course, I'll be listening to my ipod.

I'm running the marathon using a technique where you run for nine minutes and then walk one (durig which I eat a little bit and hydrate). This technique actually improves running times because it gives your body a chance to replenish all the minerals and fluids you lose int he running. Anyhoo.

I was wondering if there was anyway for me to program my iPod to automatically play for 9 minutes, pause for 60 seconds, and then play for 9 minutes again, so that I'd have an indication of when to start and stop walking.

Any help would be appreciated,

-rhett

AppleScripts cannot be run on iPod when it is disconnected from the computer so no joy.

It might be a pain, but you could put 9 minutes of songs in a playlist, then a 60 second recording of silence, then 9 more minutes....

Like back when we used to calculate down to the second how many songs would fit on a cassette mix.

Depends how desparate you are to have your iPod do the timing. Me - I'd look at programmable watches.

The Nike Triax series is good looking (for digital watches), curve around the wristbone rather than riding on top of them, and have multi-layered countdown timers, where you could set to 9 min, 1 min, repeat.

Yeah...I could get a programmable watch, but that's not really cool. I'm pretty bummed we can't run applescripts on the ipod independent from being hooked to a computer. Alas. It looks like I'll try to do the 9 minutes of music and then put one minute of silence...definetely not as cool, though.

Thanks so much to everyone for replying!
