I received my 15gb 3G iPod last Friday 5th Sept earlier than the 2-3 weeks I was quoted when I ordered it, so imagine my surprise when the 20gb/40gb iPods were released on Monday. Today (Tuesday 9th Sept) I telephoned Apple UK to return my 15gb iPod & after taking my deatils I was put on hold whilst i was subjected to Enya's greatest hits parts 1 through to 13 - (those crazy Irish fellows in the Apple UK & Ireland Store). 10 minutes later the Apple sales person came back to me took my details again & i was put back on hold (Clannad this time). Eventually a different person picked up the phone and said 'So you want to return your 15gb iPod, would you like to swap it for the 20gb version - you can hold more music on this one? I replied 'Yes, OK is it going to cost me anything extra?' she replied 'Not if you exchange it, only if you decide to return the 15gb one' 'that sounds good to me, lets go with that'
I was told the courier would phone me to collect the 15gb pod in the next 2 days but i would have to wait 7-10 days for the 20gb pod. 'No problem' I replied content with a good days work.

Just gotta add all that extra music wilst being happy, without a care if a bigger model comes out next week or whenever!!

let me get this straight, you had been using the 15gig ipod, when the new one came out, you called them and they took back the 15gig and exchanged for a 20gig totally free?

if this is the case, i received my 30gb ipod on 27 August, which is 15 days ago, am i eligible for the same? (replacement for 40gb ipod)...?

I think PRO must have used the Jedi mind trick on the customer service person.

Personally, I think the larger sizes get to be overkill at some point. Especially when you take the limited battery life into consideration. Don't get me wrong, if they were all the same price I would get the largest available but I'm not complaining about my 10GB. Most of my music fits on there and it's easy enough to swap tracks with the firewire.

Well the point is that i was within my '7 days of receiving my product' & Apple anticipated people not being happy about receiving say a 15gb when then 20gb was available in this 7 day period. They offered the exchange without me asking. For your informatin I hadn't actually taken the iPod out of its box as i hadn't finished ripping all the CD's from my (large-ish) collection that I actually wanted, but Apple didn't know & never asked about the condition.

Just out of interest I'm using AAC at 192kbs for most of my ripped CD's, but 128 on the spoken word / dance, & some at 224kbs - say stuff like Mazzy Star, Suzanne Vega etc..

Last year I got them to exhange my iMac after 6 weeks because of a faulty modem - this took a LOT OF TIME & PATIENCE....

I anticipate my MP3 collection summing up to around 50-60 GBwhen I'm done ripping all my CDs, maybe even 100 GB if I hit the ones boxed away. I was a DJ a few years back, and have a monstrous collection.

I settled for a 15GB iPod. I'm gonna have to synch it up no matter what, it might as well have a "managable" amount of music on it. With 30 or 40, I'd be swimming in music and not taking time to listen to some forgotten tunes.
