I am having a lot of issues in getting my Ipod shuffle to work on my home computer. My computer runs windows xp sp2 and it has usb 2.0. Any way when I try to add, delete songs or anything to the shuffle itunes pops up with "Unkown error (-36)". I tried calling apples tech support but they had no idea what was wrong. The shuffle is plugged directly in to the usb port and nothing is blocking it from being plugged in all the way. The shuffle works fine on other computers so the shuffle isn't defective. Any one have any ideas on what could be wrong?

Welcome. Try using a different USB port and see if it works.
-Also, it could a corrupt song that's causing it if it gets hung up on the same song.
-I found this thread that might give some help:

I have tried a different usb port. I think I may pickup a pci usb 2.0 card and see if that works. I think my usb may not be putting out enough power but I don't have any decent ways to check that. I know it isn't the song becuase I have tried adding different songs and I can't even change my options on the ipod shuffle from this computer.

I have never had problems with my usb stuff before. I regularly use a hnadycam, many usb memory sticks, and cell phone on my usb with out any problems of course not all at the same time. I have a 450w power supply. I have read that some manufacters don't build usb ports up to spec on motherboards. Like some can only output 500ma instead of the 1a they should be capable of. I am trying to contact the manufactor of my motherboard now.

Do you have something else attached at the same time using USB? If you do unplug it and then try the Shuffle.

Also, did this start after you had transfered songs onto the Shuffle or was the problem existing before any songs were transfered? I'm wondering if a corrupt song is causing the problem and stopping it from updating.

I have tried it with nothing on the usb except the shuffle. I have had this error before I even had anything on the shuffle when I first got it. I was able to upload the same music over the network using a different computer.

I suggest that you return it for repair service and let Apple send you a new one. Hopefully, it will work and you won't have the same problem.

I added a USB 2.0 card, and adaptec card to my PC. Now using 2.0 I no longer get any errors updating my IPS.
