Hi. I'm planning on getting a fifth generation iPod 20GB somewhere in the next five weeks, and need to know jsut one thing before I decide for good. I download all of my music from Limewire in MP3 format. Not I'm sure this has been asked before, but can these files go onto a fifth generation iPod? I have heard of some sort of protection services on the new iPod, but it may just be about music stores. From what I understand, all I have to do to put MP3 files on an iPod is hook it up and transfer files that are in my iTunes library. Am I right?

I jsut need clarification. Thanks for any help, and I can't wait to get my hands on a new iPod. :D

Well, unless you have a time machine you won't be getting a 5th Generation (5G) iPod as they have not been released yet ;) The current 20GB iPod is the 4G iPod, even the black U2 iPod is the same as a 4G iPod. The mp3 format can be played on the iPod. The iPod can play the mp3 format, mpeg-4 AAC format, Apple Lossless, wav, aiff, and audible formats as well.

All you will have to do is add the songs to your iTunes library which consists of dragging and dropping then drag those files over to your iPod.

On a side note you should not steal music (though everyone does). As long as the files you get are in the mp3 format then you will be fine.

Yea, I realized that right after posting. Lol, thanks for any answer anyways. I know music shouldn't be stolen, but I do support all bands that I decidedly 'like'. I'll buy a CD or two by bands I'm interested in for more than a week to support them. Apart from that, waht can I say? It's legal in Canada. :p

Yes you can do this. If you're like me, you'll also get a kick out of the wrapper of the ipod that says "Don't steal music" when you open it, which most likely was enough to appease the RIAA dolts.

Only if the idealology of "It's legal in other countries" applied. I think I would have my closet stocked with Absynth. As long as you buy some CD's then I think it is OK. There are some people here who say they never steal music, but they forget that even borrowing a CD from a friend and ripping it to their hard drive is stealing.

I wish I lived in Canada where life seems simpler. Oh well, atleast I am 30 minutes from Juarez, Mexico.

Alright, iPod - Here I come. Thanks for your help, and maybe I'll stick around on these forums once I get one. :)
