I had an Ipod simply die on me and I'm trying to get the computer to recognize its replacement.

Windows sees the drive as a removable drive just fine, and that process is as it always was.

However, I need to Restore the Ipod using Updater. Updater, (according to the Apple web site), doesn't like to mount Ipods when Windows isn't installed on the designated C drive. In my case, the primary drive is E, with the iPod showing up as Removable Disk C:.

I cannot for the life of me figure a way around this, though I managed something last time.

Any ideas for somehow getting this punk to mount without wiping drives and reinstalling Windows on my hard drive after changing its designation to C:\? (Which is the Apple sites "solution" to the problem)

Thanks in advance,

Welcome. What you can do is change the drive letter of either or both.

-right click on my computer
-select manage
-select disk management
-right click on the drive
-select change drive letter & path
You will then change the "E" to "C" and hopefully this will solve the connection problem. The iPod should show as "E" after that when connected.

Just after I posted this, I figured it all out. Thanks for the speedy reply, though!

The comedy is - I use Anapod Explorer. They link your activation and use of the software to the iPod or whatever you use the software with. So, in getting a new iPod, I can't just get it back up and running - I have to send in proof of my Warrenty Exchange iPod with a short explaination of what happened to the old one and then wait for their reply with activation information.

Sad, really.

Thanks again!

This didn't work for me as Windows won't let you change the Drive letter of the boot drive to "C".

The reason my Windows wasn't installed on C drive is that I had a portable drive plugged in at the time of install which claimed the C drive as it's own and windows got left with E.

The solution in my case was to plug this portable drive back in so there was a C drive. After this I didn't get the "Can't Mount Ipod" message.

The worst part is that apple has documented this BUG in their knowledge base and listed the solution as "Reinstalling Windows on C drive"... wow gee thanks apple. We will reinstall windows because you dont want to fix a bug in your software!
