Hello All,
I have a 20GB pod on Window XP sp2, Itunes. Has been working flawlessly for 15 months. I attempted to load songs on a friends ipod shuffle and was uable to. Ever since then, my PC has not recognized my iPod. I have plugged it to the pc with both firewire and usb and I get the same problem. When I connect it to the PC I get the message that says that iPod updater needs to be run. The iPod updater software will only give me the option to restore not update. I tried running this once, and gave me a "cant unmount ipod" error. At this point Itunes will still not recognize it. It will show up under my computer as a drive but It says it needs to be formatted, I tried to format it as Fat32 and that also failed. I have also removed any software that I thought might have caused problems, (firefox etc) and still it doesnt work.

Also, If I plug it into my fathers PC it works fine! I was able to clone his pod onto mine so I am not without music, but this problem is driving me nuts.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I will be eternally grateful for any help.

Kevin

What letter does it show up as in my computer? When connected open the updater & plug the cable directly into the iPod, if it doesn't mount then reset it while connected to the PC.

Try putting it into disk mode & then connect to the updater.
