During a recent move i lost my itunes cd that came with my ipod. I have since had to reformat my computer and therefore i lost my original itunes. After the reformat I tried dowloading itunes and the ipod updater from the apple website, but after installing both my ipod is still not recognized by windows. Is there any way around this?

The software you downloaded from apple should work with your iPod--you don't need the factory cd.
Are you connecting through usb or firewire? Have you tried different ports on your computer to see if that makes a difference? When you plug your iPod in, does your computer make that "something's connected" noise? If it doesn't, it could be some of the drivers for your usb/firewire ports didn't get loaded correctly after the reformat of your computer.
