need some help

i know very little about ipods or computers but i am shopping for an ipod and i was going to get the regular 40gb but they just stopped making it. then i thought i'd get the 60gb photo b/c it's only $50 more than the other one. but are 60gb really needed? i mean what are the chances someone uses that much space? i love music and have a lot of it and like live music that lasts longer than 4 mins. i think 60gb is as much as my laptop...that seems like a ton of space.

so then i found a site that has the 40gb photo at a discounted rate. so that seemed like a good deal b/c it comes with the dock and case etc... so basically what i'm asking is, is the updated 60gb photo that much better than the older 40gb photo (in terms of battery life etc)? and are the extra 20gb worth it? am confused. please help. thanks!

i would stick with the 40gb. about 100+ cheaper with accessories and the best part of the 30gb is that it is about .1 inches thinner but the 60gb remains the same thickness..

sugarmag, I have a 60GB iPod photo and use it for storing music, photos and work data/backups too. It is a convenient way of transporting large amount of data around.

The is no real difference between the 'old' 40 & 60 GB iPod photos (except for the capacity of the harddrive). The difference between the 'old' and 'new' 60GB photos is: new cardboard box, fewer accessories and a lower price. The battery life is still the same, 15 hours.

As the 'old' (40 & 60GB) iPods have been discounted in some stores, they are a good deal - especially since they include the extra accessories. However, you should consider how much you can afford to spend and if the size (thickness) of the iPod is a concern to you. Cheers.

If you are really not going to use it to much more than you music and some photos then I recommend you to get the 40GB, it has all the extras and its much cheaper.
