- have been using 3g 40gig ipod with no problems for about 6 months.

- windows xp user.

- recently purchased 1gig shuffle.

- "installed" the shuffle using the included software, which required me to enter the shuffle's serial number. this appeared to replace the serial number of my existing ipod.

- successfully transferred music to shuffle using usb port.

- after this, i connected my 40gig ipod using the firewire cable (same as always), and itunes doesn't recognize it.

- i need to be able to transfer music seamlessly between these 2 devices and my computer.

- apple support is non-existent for this issue.

please help! thanks.

Could you perhaps make two user profiles and just swap between them when you want to use one of the devices? I'm not up on the tech too much, but it seems to me that would work.

I use two iPods on my PC and both are on manual & get recognized. Try reinstalling the disk for the other iPod then place it on manual. It should show up in iTunes. Check my computer and see what letter it shows up as or if it show in that area at all.
