i want duplicates!

so, i guess i have a unique problem. instead of getting annoying duplicates of songs, i'm *missing* duplicates.

for example, i've got the same songs on a couple different albums and compilations, but when i sync with MMJB now, only *one* song is copied onto the ipod (and there doesn't seem to be a way of deciding which album gets the song).

i discovered this and was extremely annoyed the other day while listening to an album that happened to share a couple of the same songs with another compilation on my ipod.

why is this happening? i want duplicate songs on my ipod so i can listen to albums with all songs present. i know MMJB is trying to transfer tunes efficiently (cutting duplicate songs), but this is ridiculous.

if i own the "garden state" soundtrack, and the first Shins album, i want the same songs to appear in proper order on both albums on my ipod. right now MMJB picks which album gets the song completely arbitrarily.

I just ran across your post. Hope you get my reply. I wonder what Apple pays one to promote iTunes???

I noticed that MM listed approx. 150 more songs than what I showed on my iPod. I finally realized that only one version of any songs with the same title were being transferrred to the iPod. I went back to MM and searched all songs with the same title. I edited the titles by adding a 1, 2, 3, etc. at the end of each song title so that each would be recognized as a different song. For example, I have about five versions of "All Along The Watchtower" (Dylan, Hendrix, Neil Young, U2, etc.). I added a "1" to the Dylan version ("All Along The Watchtower1"), a "2" to the Hendrix version ("All Along The Watchtower2"). Since Dylan's was the original, his version is "1".

When I rip a CD now, I check my MM library for any songs which might have the same title as the songs I'm ripping from the CD. For instance, I have several versions of a song titled "These Days". These are not versions of the same song, they are completely different songs.

Now the iPod has all the songs in my MM library.

I know this is a hassle but until it is corrected or I find a better way, this will have to suffice.
