Hello-

I'm in the process of moving/copying all my music to a new external harddrive. I use windows 2000 and followed the step by step instruction in the IPOD 101/201 articles. (which are very awesome BTW)

I went to the advanced screen and changed my file location to the ex-harddrive. It shows the new location but when i press "get info" on each track it shows my OLD file spot. The files are now on both my computer and external harddrive for sure. I decided to erase the music on the exdrive and start over. What happend was about 70% of my songs have an (!) next to them in iTunes. These songs still have the old location listed while the ones that don't have the (!) showing are coming off the exdrive.

I'm very frustrated.

Please help

Thanks in Advance

I am in the habit now of clicking the My Computer icon and setting it up so I can see my music library. It is very useful to go back between this display and the itunes software.
When you have the music files where you want them, you click the files, one song at a time and itunes creates a brand new link. You have the option of trying to mend the old links < marked with a (!)>but I think that is the hard way. Just delete them. Itunes will show your good and bad links simultaneously. Even if you don't use this technique it is still handy to have your library displayed in another window just to see where things are.
Good luck!

The reason the "get info" is still showing the old info is because those song files are still setup to the old location. Which is why you have the ! next to the songs. You need to go through each song individually and relocate them. I had to do this when I put all my music on my networked harddrive. I found it too much of a pain to go through each song individually so I just removed everything and re-added them from the new location. I found this much faster and easier than going through each song and relocating the file.
