View Full Version : IPod Shuffle and WINXP (SP2) Unrecognized
Greetings.
NEw Ipod owner and visitor to the site. Well it seems that WIN XP is not so friendly (neither is the IPod). I am certain folks have had this issue but I can't seem to figure it out nor find an answer.
I have software loaded; IPod plugged in. Guess what? It isn't recognized. The Strange thing is the very first day I got it it did recognize it and everything was fine. But now when I try to go and load other music on it the bloody thing seems to not work right.
THere has to be a sw conflict or something but I can't find it. ANy one else have this issue....otherwise I am returning it and getting something else.
Thanks.

Wish I could help, but I just wanted to add that the problem you're having with the Shuffle is the exact same problem I'm having with the new 30 GB Photo. I've only had it for about 3-4 days, and it worked beautifully the first day, but every time since then Windows and iTunes haven't been able to recognize it when plugged in. I'm guessing this is a common problem between the newer iPods and XP? Whatever the case may be, it's very frustrating... If you ever do figure out how to get your Shuffle recognized, please post what the solution was here. I'd love to know what I could do to get my iPod Photo recognized again.

plot thickens. After posting this I tried some desparate tactics. I started unplugging and pluggin teh IPod in and out for about 5 minutes. Oddly enough the PC recoginzed it. Though the ITunes Software told me it didn't. Something about needing to reinstall the software. Did that....no dice. I can go in a view the IPod files and add and delete music....though I have begun to nocite that my IPod only plays the first 30 songs......guess this was always the case I just didn't catch it until now.
Lastly came to work. Plugged the Ipod in to charge and guess what.....this PC recognizes it. I am a bit dismayed since SP2 is not installed (conflicts with office firewall) the Itunes software still tells me the same malarkey about needing to install (use Itunes for my player).
This is all very confusing. You wouldn't guess that I am a project manager for a software company eh?
