View Full Version : Why would anyone buy the EX71's?

I order the EX-71's from ecost.com 3 days ago. Got them today. I already called them to send them back and get the EX-51's. The 71's are way too short. The earbud falls out of your ear easily and you can't even hold your iPod at arms length because the cord is too short. The cord is way too long with the extension cord. What the hell was Sony thinking? Why do people use the 71's?

If you use the remote (iPod or minidisc) the short cord is perfect. And if you use the extension, the "pill" style case can be used to wrap extra cord around.

I've had mine for months, and have no issues. Great bang for the buck. But the 51's are fine too.

Quit complaining. They provide the best sound quality for the price and they are the most comfortable in-ears available.

Well, in regards to your complaint about the length, that's why they included the smaller case to wrap and shorten the length of the cord. I've had my 71s for a couple months and it really doesn't bother me.

It is ironic how you said you ordered the 51s instead. If the earbuds on the 71s fell out of your ears, what makes you think that the 51s won't? The construction of the earbuds are the same.

I like the long cord. I often end up putting my iPod on the floor while I listen in bed, or on my desk if I am working. Sometimes I use remote & the extension.

I'm just CCRRRAAAAZY like that.

What does that have to do with the ludacris decision to make them 12" in length? I'm not disagreeing with the comfort and price, just the length.

I guess I should have been more specific. They fall out on short side when you turn your head because of the cord length, not because the earbuds don't fit or anything.

There is nothing ludicrous about it, the short cord is the perfect length when plugged into a Sony remote control. It is the exact same length as the cord on my old Sony earbuds that came with a Discman CD player.

Sony making headphones primarily for Sony audio products, whatever next?

That's why I got the 51s. The work fine. I suppose if you use a remote, the 71s would be a good choice.

Huh? What does that have to do with anything. Even if I had a Sony Walkman, the cord is still too damn short.

It has to do with the fact that the short cord is exactly the right length for plugging into a Sony remote, just as I said before.

A Sony cord is the right length for a Sony remote, is that any clearer?

OOOOHHHHHH, I get it now. So they made the cord short on purpose for those people that have a Sony remote. Gotcha. So you need to have a remote as well to get any use out of the cord. Smart. So for the people that don't have the remote (the majority of people) the 71's will be useless.

I don't think a cord that is less that 12" longer than usual makes a pair of headphones useless. You are just being a baby. If you don't like it, don't use it. You don't need to publicly complain about it.

I'm just letting people know so they don't go through what I did. I got the 71's and now I am waiting for a return code from ecost. I wish someone else mentioned how short they really were before I bought mine.

Remote? LOL. For a tiny portable devide. It isn't like you have wireless headphones and can use the remote. Jesus.

I think people are refering to in-line remotes.
I find the extension cord a littel annoying. i don't like having the 'bulk' of the connector in the middle of it. But i'm very impressed with the sound quality for the money i spent.

I love mine! I bought them from ECost a few weeks ago. I can't really get the extension to wrap around the plastic earbud case well. So I just use a twist tie to get rid of the extra length on the extension and I'm happy. I love the short length when I'm using my armband and it'll be nice for the remote I bought that should arrive this week.

You seem pretty upset about this. Are you upset at Sony or yourself for not doing your research before you bought this product? There are tons of threads on here about the cord differences between 51 and 71.

We're talking about the Inline Remotes that connect to the ipod. Many college students have the ipod in the packpack and control the unit through the remote.

duh
