Well since I got my ety 6is today I went about testing them on a few songs. They are GREAT - really pound the stuff inside your head.

One of the best BASS testing song is IMHO:

Smack my (:)) up by Prodigy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00002DCYG/104-4063805-3910324?v=glance)

with some simply AMAZING bass and scratching...

And my second best would have to be Crystal Method "Name of the Game" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005MK6U/104-4063805-3910324?v=glance)

personally i think the best 3 are:

metallica- outlaw torn
metallica- fight fire with fire
rage- bullet in the head

ones with bass sections eg the rage song, or fast double bass, like fight fire with fire, are great for testing.

"Like Humans Do" by David Byrne has an extremely low bass line. Also, believe it or not, I like "You're So Vain" by Carly Simon. The bass comes in really strong at the chorus. It's good for testing impact.

As some of the people here have noticed, while it's apparently lost on others, a great bass track is more than a bass drum going "boom" "boom" "boom".

One of my favorite tracks for a great bass guitar intro is "It's Getting Hectic" by The Brand New Heavies with Gangstarr. Play this on your car system and it would be impossible not to impress.

The other stand-out track with a great bass intro (and the bass line turning into the main musical theme of the song) is "Hysteria" by Muse.

You can't beat Primus for slap bass.

And for metal/rock fans, like the guy who mentioned Metallica, how can you overlook Tool?

And for fans of industrial... NIN?
never been that big a fan of them to be honest....yeah everyone hear seems to think a good bassline is just a boom boom one...and yes you can beat primus for slap bass...listen to the chili's older stuff...flea's basslines are incredible.

and yes muse songs are great too, love hysteria.

A good song to test your headphones on does not have to be complicated. In my view it is the clarity of the song which makes the difference. If you can distinguish the highs and the lows, the bass from the treble, then that gives you a good platform to judge the quality of the sound you are receiving.

It may be that the best way to do this is having a very mundane bass drum (the 'boom, boom' kind), and then an obvious beat. Clarity is key to me. The complicity of a song does not make it worthy enough to be a judge on sound quality in my opinon.

Zombie Inc
02-25-2005, 08:44 PM
indeed, but to hear the variations of bass thru the F Key listen to Victor wooten's classical thump (Jean-Sebastien Bach on a 5-string low-B Bass). Other Bass Songs that could be interesting would be YYZ of Rush that has many solo bass rifts.

Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder remake by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I agree with the Carly Simon comments - not the first song I'd think of... or the second... or the...., but it is so sweet to hear it clearly.

.... just about any song - when you listen with good headphones, it is amazing how much separation and clarity there is - it's like hearing old favorites for the first time.

Let me throw in some oldies, for the sake of discussion. A few that I like, not just for good bass, but for overall production value as well:

* You Don't Know Me - Ray Charles
* At Last - Etta James
* Son of a Preacherman - Dusty Springfield
* Wonderful World, Beautiful People - Jimmy Cliff
* Summer Wine - Lee Hazelwood & Nancy Sinatra
* Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake, & Palmer

Does anyone have any other oldies recommendations?

Alright, I tested every song listed in this Thread About BEST BASS FOR HEAD PHONES.. (or car audio (VS)..

Every Song In This Thread Before This Post Doesn't Have Crap For Bass. (or it's a poor song with bad bass)

You guys are posting songs that only have BASS Guitar's & SLAP BASS!! LMAO!!

Finally, How about some real BASS? you know? The definition of the word "BASS". ( something that makes sense with the original post of this thread.)

Get:

DJ Baby Anne - Trip The Bass

Alien Project & Astrix - Genetic Eyes

Kind of trancey. But it's how bass should be used in any song.

"Im not dissing your choices of songs"
"Don't reply with low self esteem comments about how i said Song's listed here are POOR..
I Simply do not like more than 3 songs that are posted here.
Because they are old top 40's. Or are junk from junk artists who use junk to make their music.

Sincerely, Music Producer.

Good Luck (Track 1) / Kish Kash / Basement Jaxx
10 seconds in there's an intro 'bthoom' with a very high volume of 19hz - 42hz content, with the peak at 28hz. Rather than just chucking a load of sine waves out as with a test, it's a multilayered set of tones at that point in the track and since 30hz is really at the beginning of where all of us really start to hear bass it's a good choice for giving phones a workout.

Sadly, on many low-impedance phones the iPod will be slightly deficient in this respect. However I have no problems with the Sennheiser HD25-1 :D

Elle me Controle by Matt Pokora. It's a french song with a steady consistent bassline. I use it to test my equalizers as well as my bass. Considering you can't even hear the bass on the stock 'buds...well.

Hi. This is my first post here
A lot of the options I heard on this forum are good, but I have two songs which I think are the best for testing bass.

Rammstein-Engel
KMFDM-Megalomaniac

On lesser headphones, the bass is so powerful with these songs that the earpieces will begin to rattle like crazy.

Seriously try these two songs
