I have (or will have soon) a 2005 Toyota Corolla LE with an in dash 6-disc CD player (factory stereo - not sure of brand). What's the best solution for a direct link for my iPod into my stereo? FM Transmittor and cassette link is not an option.

Neo iOn, ice-Link, other?? Reasons?? Opinions??

Thanks!

I have the CE model, i had to jump through alot of hoops to just find out if i could get an external changer, I have the basic single cd model, the best suggestion i have is to contact the parts department at your dealer and ask if they offer it as an option. I actually ended up having to take my headunit out to look. I will be installing a P.I.E. adapter in a couple of weeks.

I've been looking for an example of what to do with a corolla as well (I have a 2004 S), if any of you finish anything, please give details and/or post pictures.

Thanks,
dj

Try the following site. I installed a blitzsafe unit in my 04 corolla and it works great.

I have a 2005 Tacoma with the 6 CD changer. Just had the P.I.E adapter installed. It works and sounds great. I just wish my commute was a little longer.

How would I go about taking out the head unit of my '04 LE? Any links?

i'm not sure about the 04, this tutorial worked for me
http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalToyCorolla2.htm

I just got done installing the ipod2car, currently i can't switch playlists, but i can switch tracks, its a little bit of a pain to install as there isn't alot of space to run wires, unfortunately i put everything back together before i thought to take pictures, one thing to note, to take the stereo out you will need metric 10mm sockets to take it out.

I will be taking everything apart to wrap the wires to avoid vibration so i'll take pictures then, if i don't take it apart i'll atleast post the final product.

I ended up running the ipod cable out from underneath my emergeny brake boot and have my ipod sitting in a tunedock. there really aren't alot of places to mount the ipod in the '05 corolla.

Ok, I'm more confused now than ever about what solution to get for my '05 Toyota Corolla (see original post).

I see a lot of posts recommending http://www.mp3yourcar.com/ & http://peripheralelectronics.com/ipod2car/index.shtml. But then there are a few people suggesting the PIE TOY03-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter (http://www.logjamelectronics.com/pietoy03aux.html) along with the imp (http://store.sik.com/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SS&Product_Code=03-1004).

My question is what is the difference between the two? Also, why are the options from mp3yourcar and ipod2car around $200 when the AUX input and imp solution totals around $100?

A little clearity please! :)

With those units you have an “all in one” adapter that does a lot more then a more basic pie unit. For example I have the neo, it charges, has a nice interface, and allows me to use the steering wheel controls. Another nice thing is they are good people to deal with and when I had questions they were easy to get a hold of and were very helpful.

The PIE adapter also supports steering wheel controls. Also, with the imp adapter, I can pull it into the cig. lighter for charging.

It just seems like something's missing that would justify the $100+ difference. Surely it's more than just being an all-in-one with good customer service. Although, I agree than good C.S. is worth something.

I purchased the neo ion from mp3yourcar.com and they sent me the ipod2car as they were bought by peripheral <sp> The difference is that you can use your steering wheel and headunit controls to change songs in your ipod. The P.I.E. toy-03 adapter gives you 2 rca input jacks to connect to either a line out from your ipod (via the sik imp, dock, or belkin car adapter) or your headphone jack, this does not provide controls from your headunit or steering wheel controls. I'm happy with my setup but be aware you have to purchase an extra cable for $20, my total came to $225, in hindsight i probably just would've replaced my headunit as i now want to replace my speakers and they have a nice looking dash kit for 2003 & up http://www.crutchfield.com/S-EKsuj82d6pj/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=112200&I=142TA2048B

I hope that helps

See, the $225 thing is what's got me bugged.

My needs are modest as I don't have steering wheel controls as it is so that doesn't matter to me. Also, I don't have a problem with using the iPod itself to switch between songs rather than using the head unit.

As long as I can use the line out on the bottom of the iPod (rather than the headphone jack), then I'm good.

It looks like for my needs that the PIE adapter coupled with the sik imp will work.

Thanks to everyone who posted here for their input. It has really cleared things up for me.

I just installed in the USA Spec Aux Adapter into a 2005 Toyota Corolla 2005 with the factory 6 CD/radio. All the plastic dash pieces are a bit tough to get apart - you sort of feel like you might be breaking things - but the Crutchfield instructions are excellent. There is space for all the wiring. I installed the interface box with a screw into the little plastic bracket where the passenger side carpet is clipped up and covered it with the carpet. I enlarged the exisitng hole in the dash compartment closest to the heater control and passed a Y adapter wire's mini jack end into there - makes a great spot for the iPod. From reading the instructions I thought that I would lose the ability to load the 6th CD into the changer, but the radio/player has the ability to switch to a second CD source. To access the interface from the the radio just press the CD button on the radio/player and it will change from CD to CD1 and accesses the interface.

Eric T,
I was reading the specs about the USA Spec Aux adapter, and it says that you need to disconnect the changer in order for it to work. How did u get around that? Is there some sort of splitter that allows both to be connected? Also, there are a few different USA Spec adapters on Crutchfield, which one were you referring to? Sorry for so many questions, I just want this install to be perfect, and so far, if what ur saying is possible, that would be as close to perfect as possible.

You only have to disconnect an external changer if you have one - the internal changer still works just fine. I just bought the model Crutchfield listed as the correct model for the 2005 Corolla.

Oh ok. The site only states that you need to remove the factory changer, not whether its in-dash or not. But that makes sense. I went to the crutchfield website and they have two USA Spec adapters listed. Does your adapter charge your ipod? Do you have control of your ipod through your radio controls? Because one of the adapters is just an RCA adapter, while the other one connects to the dock connector on the ipod.

I got the cheaper one that uses RCA input as I wanted to keep the iPod's interface and abiltity to use its own Shuffle. Also I already had a Monster car charger with audio output so I use that with it.

OK, good deal. I was reading about the more expensive one and it says that it has the ability to use the iPod controls OR the Radio Controls, it just requires a DIP switch change. Also, in addition to "CD1" what else does the screen read on the stock stereo?
