I'd like this to be a one-stop forum for discussion on gym solutions for the iPod. The mini and shuffle are made for the gym -- but what about the rest of us? Good products are definately lacking.

As for myself, I never really worried about my iPod when I was working out. Running outdoors, I just carried it in my hand. Doing cardio indoors, I just plunked it right in the water bottle holder of the gym cardio equipment. Now that I've started weight training, though, I've discovered that I need a secure and mobile way to carry my iPod so I have full range of motion. I tried clipping it on my waistband, but all that ended up doing was pulling down my pants on the gym floor. ><;

So here is what I've heard that other have used/liked in the past:

- SpeckProducts SkinTight Armband: http://www.speckproducts.com/3g-armband.html
Support for 3G iPods and newer; works like Apple's mini armband works on the mini, except it hooks up to an included skin instead of your iPod

- XtremeMac SportWrap: http://www.xtrememac.com/ipodgear/sportwrap.shtml
Supports all iPods except shuffle; I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it looks like a wide, velcro armband with a pocket for your iPod and a place to keep your excess headphone wires out of the way

- Timbuk2 Digital DJ Hip Pack: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/71301/wo/6P6GeVaQRm7g3OgHlrv1QBvYBPa/19.0.0.11.1.0.6.9.19.0.1.1.1.1.0.1.0.1
Supports all iPods; works like a fanny pack, with extra room to store keys, I.D., killer DJ-riffic headphones, etc.

Have you used any of these products? If so, post a review!
Do you use another product? If so, post a review and a Web site link, please. :)
Have you devised a home-brewed solution? If so, post photos and a how-to!

Thanks! I hope this benefits everybody. I still don't know what to do, myself...

I got my iPod mainly for the gym (I'm fed up of having to swap minidiscs), although I haven't tried it yet due to it being sat 200miles away at my parents house whilst I'm at uni (they bought it on my behalf as my dad gets a 15% discount in some stores here in the UK)

As you've said, the drinks holder on cardio machines is good to hold the player, but for weights I've put my minidisc player in my pocket (zip one, so only enough to let 'phones out). It only just fits, but the iPod should fit better.

I don't know how practical it could be, but what about on a lanyard around the neck?
