Unfreaking believable. 2 hours of screwing with these keys I got to get this 05 head unit off to install a simple ipod connector.

Posts here say its easy, 15 minutes and my job is done.

WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG!

20 bucks down the crapper and I now have to go to vw to have them do it for me.

So are you asking for help or you are telling us that you're fed up and you're going to VW?

How about model of the car and someone might be able to help.
2005 VW leaves us with a ton of options.

I was able to do it with some keys I ordered off of the internet...i actually just finished swapping out cd decks in my 01 jetta

a word of warning...if nothing much has changed in 4 years, it seriously sucked getting all of the wires to fit back there...I was hooking up a new cd player as well as using sik-imp and it took us like 2 hous to fit it all in there...the only way we were actually able to do it was to basically shove the wires in the back and push as hard as we could until it snapped in place.

I had the same problem with the factory head unit in my Mazda Tribute. I watched the installer put in an FM modulator last year and he ended up partially disassembling the dashboard. I just had my head unit replaced and can now see why my efforts with the DIN tools were unsuccessful: the clips on the head unit (which the DIN tools are supposed to disengage) were bent out farther than they should have been.

See if you can find a Car Toys store in your area. They will install equipment you bought elsewhere (for a fee, of course).

I had the same issue with several cars I installed new cd players into , and found that ball end Allen keys were good, note you have to give them a good push before the disconnect the spring clips. Some brute force may be needed.
As for the other point about the wires, I found this also , could not use adapters and had to solder the wires to the loom ,to reduce the lenght of cable.

Mostly a rant. I get instruction on the keys to use a specific for the 05 jetta. Looking at some of the posts on the site, I see them using a different key than the manuf specified.

Again a rant. Im just too ####ed off that I spent the money for something that I can use.

I get the keys in the slot and hear a click on all 4 slots, when I try to pull it out... nothing. locked into place.

Anyone want a set of keys? Freaking worthless to me.

Ok. Went to VW dealer and they helped get the head unit out.

After that the install went great! No issues! I'm now very happy.

My suggestion to all out there who are thinkinig of purchasing the keys, dont. Simply go to the dealer and they will help. You will save up to 20 bucks and a big headache.
