Anybody used these noise cancelling headphones?

They were recommended by someone who has the Bose headphones (and at less than $100!)

well ive never used them but i contemplated gettin them. however, ive read here, http://www.ipodlounge.com/reviews_more.php?id=3855_0_6_0_M
and in a few other places that they really aren't worth the money. the noise cancelling is ok, but for $80 there is no way the sound quality is even kind good enough. cheaper in-ear headphones have better passive noise reduction than these so-called "noise cancelling" headphones. you're probly better off with something different.

Try an in the ear-canal phone - As you can see from my signature, I like Etymotic, but others equally support Shure and others. The canal phones do an excellent job of canceling external noise, and provide much better sound.

i completely agree with the former president there. the only place you need noise cancelling headphones is when you're out - on the bus, at starbucks, library, school, work, etc.... (except, of course, if you live with 5 of your siblings all under 10 years old.) i would recommend ear-canal phones because they are very portable, so when you're at a starbucks studying, (like i always do) you won't need to carry those gigantic headphones just for noise cancellation.
i don't know about starbucks in your area, but the one that i go to, for some reason, plays the LOUDEST music i've ever heard. but when i put on my Shure E3c's, i heard nothing but my own favorite tunes.
Thanks for the input. I don't like the ear canal style headphones - I find them uncomfortable for any long term use.
In addition, althought my wife and I also share the iPod we are not that keen on sharing ear wax :)

Active noise cancelling headphones tend to create a slight pressure sensation on your ear drum, maybe uncomfortable for some people, I suggest you try them first, before you decide to take the plunge.
I sold my Bose QC2 recently, due to unsatisfactory sonic quality and the pressure on ear drum...
overlunge,
currently using E3c on the plane.

For good isolation from outside noise, try the Sony 7506's or the Sony V6's (Supposedly the same except the 7506's have a gold plug). I have used these on planes and trains before and they provide great outside noise reduction as well as sounding excellent. They're also very comfortable for extended use. The 7506's are pretty much industry standard in the tv/music industry when it comes to monitoring. The V6's can be found online for around $80. A great deal for an excellent set of cans.
