I was trying to get my iPod (which uses EphPod) to connect to my friend's computer, which uses MMJB for her MP3s. It didn't work -- MMJB's having trouble pulling up the 'pod -- but the bigger issue is that it DID put my 'pod into "Do Not Disconnect" mode (and the little IPod icon in the system tray says that the IPod is connected).

However, I can't get the Ipod to disconnect! Right- or left-clicking on the iPod icon doesn't pull up any menus. Clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the sytstem menu similarly doesn't work -- it doesn't show the IPod as a device to be removed.

So... as it stands, my IPod is frozen in "Do Not Disconnect" mode and the computer isn't giving me any options to disconnect it (and thus get it back to the main 'pod menu so I can listen to my music!). What can I do? Worst case, if there's even a way to reset the 'pod, that'd be okay -- I can resync all my music if need be... I just need to get the iPod to "unfreeze" from Do Not Disconnect so that I can do something with it again. Can anyone help?

I take it you've already pulled it out of the dock? Have you tried a reset? Press menu and pause/play until the Apple logo comes up.

If that doesn't work, try Forced Firewire mode, press the FF & Rew buttons until "Ok to Disconnect" comes up. Connect it to your PC and then unmount it normally.

Never connect to an MMJB machine again. ;) Or, if you must. Make sure that iPod Manager isn't running (it'll show up in task manager) and then connect. This should make it so that the iPod only shows up as a HDD and MMJB doesn't get involved at all.

Then you can copy tunes over using My Computer/Explorer

Thanks for the help -- the forced reset did the trick, so my iPod is saved! Even better, though, was the tip about killing the iPod manager program... now that I've done that, I'm able to get my iPod connected to her computer without problems. I can use EphPod (which I have stored on my iPod itself) to get music to/from the 'Pod, and things look good. Nice to be able to control what happens when instead of having to rely on Apple's programs running it for me (and messing things up!). I'm trying to do this without messing around with her setup more than I have to, and just killing the iPod manager lets me do so -- she can still use MMJB (I should work on converting her to EphPod but I don't think it's worth the effort!) and I can get EphPod to work fine with her computer... thanks again!
