Changing the color of the buttons on a 3G?

I'd like to change the color of the buttons on my 3G from red backlight to something else, maybe purple? Has anyone done this? I have been trying to think of some good ways to do it but haven't come up with any yet...

Yeah its possible...but its also very hard....
these LEDs are probably surface mount...they measure maybe 2mm by 1mm...yes, very small...

a website is offering these mod...but the price is kinda high...

Wonder if there is a way to just tint the inside of the button...?
