Hi,
I am going to buy a new iPod, and I have learned the hard way with my old one that the chrome back scratches very easily, so, I am going to buy a case before I buy the iPod.

After checking out all of the options, I think that I would like a silicone case, they are form fitting and have a lot of options. My question is about heat, the ipod generates a bit and I was wondering if anyone knows if the silicone material helps or hinders the dissipation of that heat. I am just concerned that it may shorten the life of the iPod.
Thanks!

well, i havent got a silicone case, but i think the iSkin cases have special holes in the back of them especially to solve this matter.

Yeah, I've never noticed an issue with heat and I have the clear evo2. But then, even before I got it my iPod (4G) never seemed to ever generate much heat. Mildly warmer than the air temperature is about all mine has managed to produce.

If you go with a Lajo skin, make sure you check out the breakdown of all the skins. I have one with air holes on the back and never have any problems. I think some of the thinner skins allow heat to escape quicker but don't have holes. Depends on how thick you need the skin for things like belt clips and such.

I leave my iPod in the Contour Showcase when charging, but I remove it from the case if I'm going to by syncing more than say 200-300 songs from iTunes. In my experience the iPod only gets slightly warm while charging, but heats up a lot more when transferring music due to the hard drive constantly spinning. Apple's official stance is that you should always remove the iPod from a case prior to charging or syncing.

Your iPod could overheat, shortening your battery life and it could melt the skin ;)

Just take off the skin everytime you charge it, it takes no effort, then you can make sure your iPod is clean, no tarnishes, and it wont overheat. Also you can clean the case to get dirt and lint off.
