Is there any way to display the song and artist tag info on the display of the 9835 (via the 420i iPod interface)?
I have tried pressing the title button, but it only allows me to see album and song, or artist and album, but not artist and song. SOng and artist seems to me to be the most necessary combination, and I can't seem to find out whether this darn thing will show it to me!
Thanks,
Chard

Go into the 9835 setup menu. I Think that's where you can control what's displayed I think under scroll settings. I think you want scrolling set to auto, not manual.

Really? Thanks for the info...but how will the scroll setting change what is displayed on the screen?

Changing the scrolling function may not change displays. On my 9815 I just keep hitting the title button until what I want to see is displayed. Maybe someone else with a 9835 will chime in.

It must be possible a guy on the 1st page of this thread has a 9835 and says all the info displays. Check in itunes to make sure you have id3 tag info for all the songs.

Actually, the guy on that thread has a 9833.....not the 9835...judging from what I've read, it seems like these two units have differences in what they will and will not display together. I also have tried hitting the title button repeatedly, but song name/artist name is not an option. If the 9835 can't display this info...that is just unacceptable (especially if the other, lower-priced units by Alpine DO have this functionality!)
i have 9835 and found no way to display song name and artist name at the same time.

That is kinda crappy. If you set the scrolling function to automatic, will it display the artist, song and album in succession?
you can display all the information if you allow it to scroll across the bottom. press display until the only visuals on the screen are the background and some text at the bottom, and then press title until the file, folder, album, artist and song start to scroll.
if you have all the info scrolling at the bottom, the m.i.x. icon gets hidden. i seem to use m.i.x. alot.
The 9835 is an excellent head unit its feature are amazing but its sound quality is what really matters. i think what the alpine engineers wanted to do with that particular display was to leave it simple and clean with just some scrolling text along the bottom. your mix still works you just dont have an icon. if you want the icon change the display. but man its just an icon. i dont know if you've done any engineering but i can honestly tell you as an electronics engineer, that the 9835 is a very sophisticated peice of equipment, the circuit design and the programming are immaculate, and your complaints they are not even worth posting.

m911 -- I agree that the 9835 is a great head unit - probably the best I have seen or used. As a software designer and professional musician, I appreciate the unit's sound quality and impressive array of sound-shaping tools, as well as its wonderful display.
BUT....how hard would it have been to include a display option for the iPod/changer source that shows the two most important Id3 tags in one view (without the need to resort to scrolling)? The iPod/changer source display shows just about everything else together, EXCEPT for song title and artist name. And in the Sirius Radio source, the 9835 DOES show song title and artist name together! This leads to the conclusion that it must have been an oversight by Alpine not to include this combo for the iPod/changer source. It is a silly blemish on an otherwise fantastic product for Alpine to neglect to include this simple display combination. :(
And by the way, if you think questions or comments that others post on this site are pointless, then don't waste your time replying -- that way no one else will have to waste our time reading your replies.
I dont think others comments and posts are pointless. i was simply stating that your complaint that the mix icon would not display in that particular mode was pointless. If you are a profesional muscician than you should appreciate the fact that the display can be completely blacked out, furthermore improving the sound quality. how bout you give that a shot and when you have something better to complain about post it.

I have tried blackout mode and found the difference in sound quality negligible even for me - certainly not enough to justify turning off the display. But, that could also be due to the fact that I have external amps powering my speakers with the 9835's internal amp turned off.
And perhaps next time you want to make snide comments you should try reading the names of those who post...I was not the one who made the comment about the mix icon. I just didn't like your condescending tone...to whoever it was who made the comment.
condescending tone? you can get all that from an emotionless keyboard? maybe next time you can comment only on remarks that are made towards you, and i will direct my comments to the desired person by using their name. kapeesh
