First off I would like to thank the iPodlounge moderators for this subforum - I find the podcasting movement to be an excellent demonstration of the real potential of high-capacity DMP technology. However, in the welcome post, we are cautioned against linking to material that may be objectionable or offensive to underage readers. My concern, then, is this:

Many podcasters today are attracted to the medium because of the freedom it provides compared to radio. That freedom is both commercial and creative, in that they are not bound to the 'industry' expectations of playlists and genre mixes, nor are they bound by FCC regulations for content. While such creative freedom can be taken to extremes, in general I have found podcasters to be slightly rough around the edges rather than egregiously obscene.

I enjoy a good number of podcasts, and although my interests lie more to the musical shows rather than those with a high proportion of banter, at least two of my favorite hosts (Cast Jockeys? CJs?) have what can only be described as occasional forays into salty language. Some of the musical choices as well, I would certainly not want my daughter listening to on her own.

I am curious, then, at what point slightly off-color lyrics or commentary become objectionable or offensive - While I would certainly not endorse posters linking to graphic talk shows, I would endorse and even encourage links to the independent and underground music shows being produced.

Perhaps a discussion on boundaries is appropriate here? I don't see a similar warning on the music recommendation forum, and I can certainly see similar concerns arising there.

Thank you for your input. We are discussing this thorny issue at the moment and can state that some safe guards will be put in place to monitor Podcast content.
