Train? Grados are an impractical suggestion IMO. I'll go with the Shure E2c.

I have both the e2c and the Sony MDR-EX51LP, and I prefer the Sonys for rap. The Sonys are more comfy and easy to insert, cheaper, have more bass, and are more compact.

The e2c are much more accurate and neutral sounding.

I'd suggest the AKG 81DJ.

Most hip-hop fans like bass, so I'd therefore highly recommend V-moda's Bass Freq earphones (http://www.v-moda.com/collection/modaphones/bass%20freq.aspx). CNET gives them a rating of 8 out of 10 and they're also got an Editor's Choice award last year. They'd also be great on a train seeing as they isolate some sound with the rubber earpieces. :D

Skullcandy Hesh, for $50 Canadian. The bass is insane. One reviewer said its the equivalent of being in Eminem's SUV with the music blaring. I own a pair and agree. The sound is so good you're head will pop.

I think Sennheiser CX300 are unbeatable in it's price range. Sennheiser CX300 are bass heavy with warm clear mids and highs.

KOSS s/porta pro
KSC 75

(I was imaging hip hop, as in a street performer... so portability was a requirement :D)
