iPod Problems

Hey, before I start, I just want to say that this website is great. Very helpful. So, here's my problem:

I have my iPod hooked up like this: the dock connector connected to both the wall adapter and the usb 2.0 port via the "dock connector to usb 2.0 + firewire" cable. (Is this ok?)

I let the ipod charge, and then installed all the software. I connected the usb part of the cable, and I all I get is "Do Not Disconnect" on the ipod screen. I tried going into musicmatch, but it didn't recognize that an ipod is connected.

I've only had this thing for a few days, and I want to use it. Please help!!! :confused:

OK, first of all, "Do Not Disconnect" is what the iPod will always say when connected to the PC. That's a good thing. It's letting you know that the PC has recognized it. You shouldn't pull the iPod out of the dock w/o first "unmounting" it by right-clicking on the iPod icon in the systray and selecting "unmount" or by clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the systray.

Regarding MMJB not recognizing it...well, hm. That's a different story.

First, open up iPod Manager (Start>iPod>iPod Manager). Make sure "Enable Firewire Disk Mode" is checked. Then open up My Computer, you should see the iPod as a new drive there. Make sure you can open it. There should be some folders in there.

If that goes well, then I'd try maybe a different program to upload with. MC9, Xplay and ephpod all work well. MMJB is the least favored program for iPod use here.

Hey, I fixed it. I'm not sure if this did it, but I switched to a different USB port. I completely uninstalled Music Match (I had actually had it before my iPod, and didn't like it), and now I'm using ephpod. Thanks for the help ashawley.
