View Full Version : Custom case....iPod case out of duct tape!

Hey gang-
I'd love it if you would take a look at my project that I worked on last night. It is a case made out of ducts tape, 3 layers thick. Super durable, with no stickies to harm your iPod. Definately one of the finest ways to keep your back plate shiney and scratch free! This case doesn't add any bulk like the iskins do either.
Let me hear your thoughts/ideas/suggestions. The case in the picture is viewed on a 20 gig 4th gen. I am going to try a mini version this afternoon.

that is really ghetto. i made a duct tape walet once. and my cousin made some sunglasses with old lenses, but never an ipod case. i dont think anyone on ebay will really want to buy it though.

Can you slide the iPod out? Or do you have to completely demolish the case to get it out of there? It's certainly a cheap solution.

It seems like a cheap but ugly solution. and what if the air was humid or your hands got sweaty? the case would get all gooey.

Oh yeah, the whole top is open. It would have to be open for the earbuds to plug in and allow access to the hold button. The bottom is sealed up so the ipod fits nice and tight.
This wasn't a cheap solution, rather just an interesting idea. They make wallets out of duct tape commercially so I thought this may be cool too.
I didn't create it to save money! Heck I've got 4 different ipod skins/belt clips/cases. Just an idea. Just an idea.

Why is everyone making duct tape cases at the moment? Is it some kinda fashion or something? I don't keep up with these things.

Maybe not a fashion, but duct tape definately is kind of popular among the younger crowd. Some girls that are really into the stuff make whole prom dresses out of it!!!

Actually, he isn't. I believe MadPict posted a link in some other duct tape case topic with all sorts of things made of duct tape.

Thats actually a good idea. If your on a low budget this would be perfect for you. It would still be kinda weird walking around with your ipod inside tape though. Nice one runninpod. Thats "ghetto" isnt it smorzander. lol when i hear your name i get hungry. "Smorz".

i saw that too, i thort it was just like, runninpod's second attempt. looks too professional though, im liking runninpods case more tho, more ghetto ;)

Regular tape is even more ghetto. I just put pieces of regular tape on the back of my Ipod and screen to prevent scratching. I can't see the screen very well anymore though :(.

It's not directly on the ipod! My gosh...it is doubel backed, it's a CASE not a taped over ipod....geeeeez

Jay Leno showed one of the duct tape cases on the Tonight Show a week or two ago. If I remember correctly it sold for about $23.00, but it was horrible looking as the hole for the click wheel wasn't even lined up correctly. LOL. People will buy anything on eBay I guess.
