So I hear that if you have windows you have to format the iPod for it. I heard that you use the CD for that. So basically what happens? After the iPod is charged you pop in the CD follow the instructions, then plug in your iPod and click format? How long is this process suppose to take? Can somebody give me instructions and details for it, so when I get my iPod I know what to do...THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I've also heard that sometimes people's iPods format for the longest times and it shows the "Do not disconnect" and all...what is up with that?

Thank you in advance!:)

Here is a link on formatting your iPod:

You can just plug in your iPod to your computer, follow the directions, then upload your music. It takes about a few seconds. It is recommended not to use the software that came with your CD as it may be older. There is a link on the page link I gave you, it is a link to the apple iPod software download page. Just follow the link I have posted and you will be fine.

Do I have to do that when I get my iPod because I have a windows? And can I use the stuff on the disc and then later update it with the updater?

So when I get the iPod and charge it, and if I have iTunes aleardy installed do I need to use the CD? Or do I just plug in the iPod and iTunes will automatically format the iPod to windows. Or do I put in the CD and do everything?

you don't need to use the cd if you have itunes already installed

when you get it you have to run the updater (ipod) for windows - itunes does not do this for you

you can get the latest version of the ipod updater at this link http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

So this is basically the order of how I should do things when I get the iPod:

Download iTunes and the updater software.
Get the iPod, plug it in the computer. Then turn on iTunes, and then run the updater which I have downloaded and follow its instructions.

OR if I don't have iTunes

Get the iPod, charge it.
Run the CD and follow its instructions.

Your best bet is to download the latest versions of the iPod updater and iTunes. Get your iPod, plug it into your computer, open the updater (do not open iTunes as it will slow everything down), then format your iPod. After that is done then you can open iTunes. You can open iTunes initially instead of the iPod Updater but it will just open the iPod updater for you, just cut out the middle man. It is reccomended not to use the software on the CD as it is probably older.

Thanks a lot. Now I get it! Thank you! Do I need to register on apple.com to download the updater? And can I register if I still don't have my iPod.

well apple asks for your data it's true but it's only to ensure you get their newsletters.

put in info if you like then download the updater even if you don't have the ipod yet
