My original computer with iTunes just died. All my music is saved on an external hard drive, so I have all the music. I have bought a new computer and installed iTunes, and have added all my files from the external hard drive to iTunes. BUT, I want to bring the playlists I created, which are still on my iPod, into iTunes, so I can burn them for friends. How do I do this?

Try PodUtil - just click on #1 in my sig for the link.

I'm trying to register and get 'unknown error'. Help.

Did you Email PodUtil about the problem?

The other suggestion would be to use some other software and transfer each playlist. If you have the same song in more than one playlist you will end up with duplicates of that song.

You can use iPod Agent (http://www.ipodsoft.com//software.aspx) to get a list of songs in each playlist and rebuild it manually.

Thank you for following up Honeybee. I have emailed PodUtil twice, and have not heard back from them. I have two problems with PodUtil:

1. It is not copying all my songs over (9725/9807)
2. My playlists are not being copied over at all
3. I'm getting an "unknow error" at the end of PodUtil
4. PodUtil is copying a majority of my songs to an 'error' file, although they can be brought into iTunes

If I buy the iPod extended warrenty (or whatever it is), will they be able to help me copy my iPod to my new computer's iTunes?
Thanks for you help - this has been very frustrating.

Have you tried iPod Agent instead of PodUtil? If not you can click #1 in my sig.

Thanks for the note! Will this download my playlists too? Or merely export the list for me to recreate later?
