Finally i try an aac (or better say mp4 file on my windows 3rd generation 10 gb IPOD).
Yes at the end i resolve my problems and succeded, first i have on my disponibility a release of Nero 6.0.0.11 which is a complete suite included a ripper mp4, then i moved it to the ipod by Ephod the file.....
but before i have to change its extension instead of using mp4 i have to use m4p ....
At the end it sounds on the ipod very well ... but i lost my idtag and when i try to change them by the Ephod editor, the ipod couldn't play the file ....
So i wanted to try ... and i tried ... now my big music collection is enterely made by mp3 files ... and for now will remains in that form ...
bye at all

What settings you used at Nero when ripped? I tried your way, but found sound not acceptable.

The Nero 6.0.0.11 version has default value mp4 settings or AAC for the previous or other versions i don't know.

If you use dBPowerAmp and Sveta to create, tag and transfer the AAC files then it does add the tag entries correctly to the iPod DB. I'm about half way thru re-riping all my CDs to Flac (so I don't have to do them ever again :) ) and will then batch convert them to AAC for the iPod.

Yeah, use DBpoweramp's Music Converter (don;t forget to dload the mp4 codec) for encoding. It tags all of the file and use the correct extension. The author specifically had the ipod in mind when he wrote this program. I think Sveta is shareware(please correct me if I'm wrong). Either way, I tried a beta demo version and it worked just fine. However, right now I'm using vPod, which can also transfer AAC's and mp3's perfectly and happens to be a great program.

It's interesting. Has somebody tried FAAD2 (http://www.audiocoding.com/) ?

AFAIK Faad2 is only for decoding purposes. But there is also Faac, which is an encoder, but it's quality is far from psytel, nero, quicktime etc...
For comparison of aac encoders go to www.hydrogenaudio.org

As far a I know, DBpoweramp uses psytel for encoding. It's a slightly older version of the program that uses the .mp4 extensions instead of .aac so it can be used with the ipod.

It does use psytel, an older version of Nero, but psytel doesn't generate mp4 files. It makes AAC files (.aac) with MPEG-4 headers, so that then you can run mp4creator (or any other program that will mux an aac file in a mp4 container) on it to create an mp4 file (.mp4) out of it. When you encode with dbpoweramp it first runs aacenc_mpeg4 (or fastenc if you didn't run the patch for better quality and slower encoding) and then mp4creator60.
Also note that psytel(aacenc, not fastenc) is older than Nero but scored similar results in the aac quality test of www.hydrogenaudio.org (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?showtopic=10457&), it is just way slower.

Is there any way to batch convert files (I have most of my CD collection in flac format) using Nero's aac encoder? The one that dbPowerAMP uses doesn't support VBR.

If you use PsyTEL AAC Encoder you should try Ivan & Menno for batch encoding.
You can do batch encoding with Exact Audio Copy and Quicktime Pro (it uses Dolby's AAC encoder) but you need Qutibacoas for doing this.
All softwares I mentioned (except Quicktime & EAC) can be downloaded from http://rarewares.hydrogenaudio.org/aac.html
