I'm getting an ipod soon and am making sure i avoid XP (as the devil himself created it), but i don't know if Windows 98SE allows me to use USB2.0 or whether i'll have to get a firewire card. (my motherboard has USB2.0 and i have downloaded the driver that gets the USB2.0 working), so can i use this feature with my operating system?
i believe you have to convert your iPod to a Windows Ipod on a machine with ME, NT, 2000 or XP and then I think its possible to connect to an 98SE machine with USB2.0 (but i'm not to sure) and then use EphPod to locate your iPod as a removable storage device. but ive heard there have been difficulties using USB2.0 and 98SE, but Firewire works well apparently! If I were you, I would consider getting XP. You live in Halesowen, I could send it to you if you did want it.

I think i'll go firewire then, it's just the fact that i already had USB 2.0 on my machine that i considered it.
I'd much rather stick with Win98SE because i've never had any problems with it, and i always seem to hear horror stories from people with XP and they've dissuaded me from upgrading before.
Thanks for your advice anyway

Win98SE does support USB2.0. I had a laptop running Win98SE and had no probs pluging in an Ateptec PCMCIA USB2.0 card (Used it for my CD burner).

Funny, I've never heard horror stories about XP. Never had a problem upgrading many, many machines. It's way more stable than 98 ever was to me. I've had one blue screen since XP came out. And that was due to MacOpener (lousy software IMO)
98 on the other hand...ugh.
To each his own I guess.. ;)
windows XP is VERY much safer than 98. Trust me. Whatever you hear from other people is garbage. This is the most stable os's yet. Never had to reformat or run scandisk or anything.
