I have searched all of eBay, Google, and the iPodlounge forums, but no avail. What I am looking for is simple. I want a hard case or shell to put my iPod in, so I can throw it into my backpack and not worry about it. I don't need (or want) holes for operation, docking, or headphones...just a iPod shell. Ideally, it would fit the iPod with an iSkin on it, but if necessary I could remove the iSkin. It seems like this is a very basic and ordinary product, so I don't know why it doesn't seem to exist. Please help me find something! Thanks.

Oh...and they make these for Palm devices. Such as this one (http://homepage.mac.com/scottsil/palmcase.jpg). Where's the one for iPod?

The closest you'll probably come to something like that would be the Matias iPod Armor:

That's a pretty good solution I guess. Do you know if it will fit an iPod with an iSkin on it? At $50, it's a little expensive to just risk and try. Thanks for the help!

eltravio, that is like exactly what I was looking for, only smaller. I want this for everyday transport in my backpack, so I just need it big enough to fit the iPod and can't afford to have something much bigger than the iPod itself. But thanks for the suggestion, I might actually look at that anyways for another purpose...

Oooh! Now I like the looks of that one. That's almost perfect, because I will be able to use my iPod with it's iSkin on for sure. I think I'll be buying one of these. Good find there Blossom!

I think what you're looking for is an Otter case. www.otterbox.com

These guys made cases for PDS and other heavy duty stuff and they have a model for an iPod that'll even let you jack in your earphones and listent to your music. Have alook. Cheers!

Great Review! I love the way you went into detail about each of the individual features. When I first saw this product I initially thought, "Great it comes with a skin!" and I assumed I would not need to buy one. Boy was I wrong. That skin looks so flimsy and does not even cover the IPod completely. After reading your review I know that I defiantly need to buy a skin. I wonder if the case could withstand the weight of textbooks, should it get jostled around in my backpack. You did mention that it was flexible. Overall, great review! It helped me decide that this is the case for me. Thanks!

I know I want to buy the STM Cocoon for when my IPod is not in use and in my backpack. However, I now realize (thanks to LikeAFox's review) that the vinyl case that comes with the Cocoon is crap. So, I need to buy a case to protect it when it is not inside the Cocoon. I thought I would just buy a silicon skin, but after reading about everyone’s problems: overheating, having to remove skin to charge, tarnishing, etc. I just don’t think I want to go the skin route. But the one case that looks promising (Contour Showcase) is thicker than the average skin.

Will the Cocoon be able to accommodate for the larger case? And if so, would that cut back on the space for headphones? Can anyone think of another case that would fit in the Cocoon and still be protective enough for everyday and exercise use?

Thanks Guys!

The 20GB Click Wheel iPod fits in the cocoon with space to spare, but it is a little tight. I'm not sure how big other skins are, but I know that the iSkin is fine. I really don't understand where all these problems with the iSkin are coming from. I have owned 3 different iSkins, and I have several friends who have bought iSkins based on my reccomendation, and no one has ever once had a problem.

But if you don't feel comfortable putting your iPod in an iSkin, I guess that's your decision. I can't really help you with any case other than the iSkin, because I have no need for any other case (aside from the cocoon). My iPod never comes out of it's iSkin.

I am selling my iPod cocoon case, if anyone is interested. I will be returning it to LaptopTravel.com if no one buys it here--but I thought I would save you some money and myself the hassle of getting an RMA number by trying to sell it here first.

There is an explanation and more info at my thread (http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78232) in the classified section.
