the sticky titled: How to convert your Mac-iPod into a Windows-iPod - mentions some software which enables you to turn your mac ipod into a windows i pod.

but from reading the manual and other threads here in the lounge, i understood that in order to convert a mac ipod into a windows ipod (or vice verca), all you have to do is format the ipod. no special software needed. so am i missing something?

That thread is giving you the link to the updater that you should have on your PC if you installed the software from the disk that came with the iPod. It's not speaking of 3rd party software. The thread is suffering from age but the link is to the current updater. You can use the updater to format the iPod for windows.
