I've had my iPod for about a year now. I tried to use it with Windows ME, and it did not work initially. After much laboring (and posting here a year ago), I finally formated it on a computer with Windows XP and used it with ephPod on Windows ME.
Now I have a new computer - Windows XP - and I tried to use my iPod with it. I downloaded ephPod and iTunes (well, my mother downloaded that, I do not know why: that could be a source of my problems). I did not install anything through the iPod disk, and I realize now that that may have been a mistake.
After ephPod and iTunes were on there, I started ripping some CDs and trying to put them on the iPod. Whenever I plugged it in, it would freeze, or the computer would freeze. It did not work smoothly. Finally I managed to upload the songs through ephPod. (It appeared that I could only do this by clicking "Save All Songs" and ejecting the iPod before closing ephPod. For some reason, on my first attempt, when I closed ephPod it gave me an error, and my songs did not show up on the computer.) But, when I tried to play them, the iPod started freezing - something that has never happened to me before, ever. I plugged it back in to try to fix it, and when I unplugged it, I found a terrible sign. "Settings" said that I had 0 songs, and yet had 9 GB of music.
Now, I don't want to format my iPod and start again just yet, because most of the music on there has no backup. So, I ask: Is there any simple and easy way to copy all of my music to the computer? And after that, what exact steps should I go through to format and install it on the new computer, since I screwed it up so badly before?
(I've tried just going into the F00 files and copying them manually, but that didn't work well. It got about 20 songs on, and there were errors, and freezings, and it was very very slow.)
