Hello all, I've been trying to find information on the problem I'm getting, and have found a little information, but not much. There's a few things:

Transferring more than 1 album at a time in ephod, or anything else for that matter, results in the program freezing and then saying there is no space, and the ipod crashing and needing resetting (menu and playpause buttons)

This is the main problem, I'm using firewire to transfer it, and the car was newly installed in my computer for it. The ipod get very very warm/hot when it's been connected for a while, so could it be overheating thats causing this?

I have the usb connector on order, which might hopefully solve this problem.

However I had managed to upload 2 gig's of music to my ipod, it then crashed, i reset it and then the music and playlists etc are all gone from both ephpod and the ipod. The ipod manager says the information is still there (2 gigs less free than the total amount of space) but I can't access it. this is really annoying as so far I've spent about a dozen hours uploading music and then having to reset and restore my ipod, and then things like this happen.

Any help will be VERY much appreciated.

Specs:

Windows 2000 professional
PCLine PCI IEEE 1394 Firewire card
15 GB New Ipod form Applestore

Pleas eplease please help me as I'm on the verge of getting my moneyback. This is the first time in several years I've touched an apple product and needless to say will almost surely be the last.

It can be not relevant, but try to use another program, MC9 for example.

Already have. Thanks for the reply though ;)

Ephpod
Musicmatch
vpod

All the same.

though by adding the pci latency patch and increasing the pci latency timeout in the bios from 32 to 128, as well as only doing uplaods in chunks of 10 or so albums, then disconnecting and rebooting my machine, I've managed to get nearly 1000 songs on there!

It seems ok if I do this, and once I have all my music on it there won't be any problems, as this is the only problem I seem to have, annoying though it is...

Do you have the newest Via 4 in 1s or Hyperions I believe they are now called installed?

I presume you are talking about PCI firewire cards?

It's a "PCline" firewire card (pcworlds own brand I think)

Listed in the device manager as:

Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

No sorry I should have been more clear, I am talking about the VIA chipset drivers. They are frequently updated and may effect issues such as PCI latency which could be at the root of your troubles.

I cannot remember which release is the most recent but if you don't know about them then the chances are that you haven't updated them. Well worth a look.

I had problems at first, like you, with my only Apple purchase. I tried it all and after getting an iPod that worked, I found "xplay" solved all my music management problems. It just works great and is easy to use. Try the trial program and see if it helps.
